I-751 - Can I travel overseas?

Hi,
I won't file the I-751 till next year, but I just like to make plans for the future
I didn't know that the waiting time for approval of the I-751 is so long :scared:
How does it work? I know that I need to file the form before 90 days of my temp green card expiration, but by the time they remove the conditions, the card is expired ( Am I right?).
My question is : during the waiting time for the approval can I travel outside of US? Maybe I need some permit for it....
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ania

Once you file I751 you'll get a one year extension on your card.
In my case the removal of conditions was approved before the extension expired.

Yes you can travel abroad. After you file your I-751 you'll get a notice
that your CARD is extended for one year. Now you can do two things. First
you go to the INS office with your passport and your one year extension
notice and get a stamp in your passport. This will eliminate the need for
your notice. Second you take the notice with you on your travels and show it
together with your card on request.
Your save bet is to get a stamp.
Don't be scared for your approval. I filed on time (don't forget to file on
time because it's bring you in a world of hurt) and I just got my Welcome
notice. The letter tells you that it'll take 3 weeks for your permanent
green card to arrive but in the real world it'll take up to a year... Just
so you know.
Weird thing was that I never had to show up for an interview after I filed
for my I-751 I just got the notice that I was approved. But not everyone is
that lucky I guess.

What if the time of approval will be longer than the given one year of extension? Is there a way to get another extension period?
Thanks,
Ania

Yes, go to the local district office and have them place an I-551 stamp in your passport.

I read here that some offices will not provide a stamp until the letter
is about to expire so it is best check first
