I-751 Approval: No Approval Letter yet - Can I go to D.O. and get I-89 processed?
Today after speaking on National Customer Line, and Immigration Officer (not a third party contractor) told me upon entering the NOA # of my I-751 that it was approved on 6/17/05. He stated that it takes times sometims to mail the approval letter because other steps have to be taken. Can I go ahead an make an appointment through Infopass with my Local District Office (Newark) and expect that once the immigration officer see the approval on his/her screen, it will ask me for pictures and to fill out an I-89 to get my new 10 year permanent resident card processed?
I would like to get this rolling if possible, since it may take several weeks to get the letter, or even worse never get the letter since they were so negligent to keep my current address updated.
I remembered once someone here went to the local office, and when the officer check on the status found out that it was approved and went ahead and asked the applicant for pics and to fill out the form I-89.
Can someone shed some light?
Thanks.

Congratulations, AGUILA!
you deserved this, after such a long journey (i have been reading your posts)
about your question,
i dont know for sure, but it would make sense if you go and try, since you are approved and it says on their system.

You should not be waiting more than 14 days after approval for an
approval notice.
Make an InfoPass appointment and have the local office check MFAS; they
can give you a new ADIT stamp also and get the whole GC thing going.

Thank you for your output. You were a 100% right, I went to my local office, they run the checks and it was approved and they processed me for an I-89, I wonder if I was ever going to receive an approval notice. I can't believe how inefficient the USCIS system is sometimes...

Sure.
The entire I-751 computer system (MFAS) is a tottering dusty mostly
broken mainframe system. It doesn't do anything but I-751s, and it
should be (and is) slated for replacement.
The printing part of MFAS, called ROPS (Remote Office Printing System --
so called because the notices printed out in a different location) broke
completely and hasn't to my knowledge been fixed; generation of approval
notices is being done through workaround methods and has been, in my
experience, erratic.

USCIS is so careless! They should have issue a notice on their website for I-751 applicants. Somthing like: "If your Service Center has reached the NOA date of your pending I-751 and you haven't receive a notification regarding its decision, please make an Infopass Appointment with your local district office to find out the status of your application"
Anyways, I filled out at Newark my I-89 on 8/19/05... and I have not received my permanent resident card yet. It could take up to 3 months right?
