I-751 about to be approved while in between addresses
Hello all :)
My I-751 is at VSC and should finally be :fingerscrossed: approved between 2 or 4 weeks. The problem is that in a week I'm relocating to California, and do not have a new address yet. I know the USPS will likely not forward the green card mail as it's government related. The hold mail option doesn't seem to help as I won't be able to go pick up my mail. On the AR-11 I see you can fill in a zip code or a post office, does it mean I could file an AR-11 with a General Delivery address? https://www.usps.com/manage/forward-mail.htm My other thought is using the address of a friend on the AR-11. And then refile an AR-11 when I have a permanent place. Are there other options that I am overlooking? Would making an info pass be of any help? Thank you :) |
Re: I-751 about to be approved while in between addresses
You must file an AR-11 within 10 days of moving. However, AR-11 does not update your address with USCIS. Here is what you should do in order to make USCIS aware of your new address:

Re: I-751 about to be approved while in between addresses
Filing AR-11 does not update your address for any pending (or completed) applications or petitions with USCIS. To update your address for a pending applcation or petition you must notify the USCIS facility where the case is pending directly.

Thank you all for the help :)
Unfortunately, to not relocate is not an option. Talk about bad timing! It would have been fine if VSC didn't have such a backlog ^^ |
Re: I-751 about to be approved while in between addresses
I had to change address on my pending I-485 application and used their online tool.
Strange how it turned out, they wrote to me and confirmed my COA 4 times, one for each pending application and then when it came to send me a document, they sent the right document to the right address. I think you should do what you are comfortable doing. Whether that be change address to a freind then change again or change to a family memebers address. Just get it done and you will sleep better at night.

Re: I-751 about to be approved while in between addresses
it is a 2 step process, you file an online COA and then you have to fill out another online form for each receipt number you have. It worked a treat for me and wasn't that hard to follow.
I have copied and pasted the brief outline below and am happy to answer questions. https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa 2. Non-U.S. Citizens If you have moved, you need to follow two different steps: •Step 1: File a Form AR-11 (This changes your address in our master database.); •Step 2: If you have a pending case, you must also file a Change of Address online or call our National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283. (This changes your address for the specific application you have submitted.) Please note that if you are a non-U.S. citizen and you have a pending case, you must complete both steps to make sure that you comply with the regulations and so we can reach you at your correct address. 3. The Process If you want to change your address online and/or file a Form AR-11 using our Online Change of Address Notification tool, you will need to have certain information available. Please have the following information available before you begin: •Your receipt notice or other notice we sent you showing your receipt number (if you have a pending case with USCIS); •Your new address; •Your old address; •If you have filed a petition for a family member, the names and biographical information for that person. If you are a non-U.S. citizen, please also have: •The date when you last entered the United States (If you cannot remember, please fill in an approximate date.); •The location where you last entered the United States (the port of entry where you entered – whether by land, sea, or air).

What online tool is that? Do you have a link? That would be very helpful if USCIS now provides an actual "change of address" tool online, rather than just the AR-11 which updates your address in the system (but does not necesarily put in for a change of address).

Thank you very much for posting that! I didn't know they had an online tool now. :)

No worries - you can't be expected to know everything. can you? ;-)
