I-751

I filed my I-751 way back in January, I have had my photo's and fingerprints taken back in febuary and now it's the middle of October and I haven't heard ANYTHING from USCIS. I was told it could take up to a year, but that is the average?? I am going nuts  I am worried that my dad might pass away before I get my green card, will i be able to leave and come back?

Cara:unsure:

Re: I-751

At the time of filing the I-751 you were given a notice of action which is paper proof of the extension of your residency benefits. Your residency will not expired until an immigration judge declares it. If you need to travel you can do so with the paper notice of action and your expired green card or you can make an infopass appointment for your local district office and get the I-551 stamp in your passport.

Is it normal for the I-751 to take SO long?

Look at Bob's recent posting - well over a year for Boston MA/Vermont Service Center.

Also do a search for posts by Milan. He has also been waiting more than a year after filing an I-751 with a waiver.

It's OK though...no reason to worry. You remain a permanent resident the whole time. You have a 1-year extension letter. And when that runs out, if you need to travel, you can go in person and get a temp I-551 stamp in your passport. Really, you don't lose anything while you're waiting. Chin up! :)

Did you file I-751 with a waiver of the joint filing requirement?

Why are you concerned at how long it will take for your I-751 to be decided?

No. I just filed my I-751 with no joint filing requirement. I guess I would have heard by now, if they wanted more proof. I did see online that the Vermont sevice center wants all I-751's compleat within 10-12 months of filing. Hears hoping it won't take too much longer. I wish everyone luck with their filing.

Does this mean you are divorced and are filing on your own? Sorry, I didn't quite get it.

You could be asked for additional evidence at anytime throughout the process.
