I-601 specialist lawyer recs?
tl;dr USC married to Haitian TPS recipient who’s been denied AOS due to previous illegal entry. Looking for recs for I-601 specialist lawyers.
My wife’s cousin is married to a Haitian guy who is currently in the US under the Temporary Protected Status provision for Haitians that expires next year. He’s working legally with an EAD issued under the TPS provisions.
They’ve applied for LPR for him based on marriage to a USC (marriage is now over two years, they have a child and it’s very much a genuine marriage]. His application has just been denied due to an illegal entry to the US he made 13 years ago. I don’t know the details of this - I presume it was his original entry to the US and he’s been here since. I am told it was an illegal entry and not a legal entry that he then overstayed.
So bottom line is that they think their only chance is to file for an I-601 waiver on grounds of extreme hardship to his USC wife and child but they're not very hopeful. I know it’s a long shot, but does anyone have any recommendations for lawyers specializing in I-601 waiver cases? They are in central CT but obviously they could consult remotely with a good lawyer based elsewhere.
Thanks!

Re: I-601 specialist lawyer recs?
He might not be eligible for an I-601. An illegal entry could mean that he snuck across border or used someone else's identification to come to the US. If he was not examined when he came across the border, I don't believe he is eligible to not only AOS but for a waiver.

Thanks Rete. Yes, it may well be a hopeless situation, but we’re just trying to help them gather information about all the possible options right now.
