Does the I-134 Co-sponsor need to provide an original birth certificate? Someone on this
list said they were bringing their co-sponsor's birth certificate it to the interview. My
father already swore before a notary that he was born in the US on the I-134 form and they
don't ask for the birth certificate in the directions, but now I am scared.
Thank you.

Don't be scared. I was the one bringing co-sponsor's BC. He is why. I telephoned Consulate
in Moscow to ask questions about different things. The information person told me the 134
is not needed any more, if you bring it they will look at it, it is not necessary though.
They also told me that I need to bring financial documentation as I wiuld bring with a
134, and I need to prove the citizenship of my co-sponsor and my co-sponsor must have a
notarized letter stating why they would support my fiancee and child if the situation
becomes necessary.
I know......
So........ I am bringing EVERYTHING !!! I am preparing the 134 as if I never heard
different, and additionally I am bringing all supporting financial docs from me and
co-sponsor, and I am bringing letter from co-sponsor and proof of their citizenship.
Maybe overkill, maybe needed. It is easy effort on my part to add a letter and BC to the
list of documents. It will not hurt.

A joint sponsor does NOT need to be a USC. Any permanent resident would do. Therefore,
they don't ask for the joint sponsor's birth certificate. Not calling anyone a liar, just
stating facts.
I would guess that everything else they told you was wrong as well. I-134 IS STILL needed.
If not, an I-864 would be needed in its place. I would forgo anymore advice from the
Moscow consulate and stick to the advice of those who have actually gone through the
process in Moscow. Michael?

Marc,
I am glad you did not take offense as none was meant. Get the I-134 together anyway, it is
better to be safe than sorry.
But, I am confused. You were told that the I-134 was not necessary, but you needed to
bring proof of your joint sponsor? I don't get it. If the I-134 is not necessary, why
would there even be a joint sponsor? I must be misunderstanding what you said.
At any rate, yes, the advice from the group is probably more accurate than the lady on the
drugs. ;o) LOL!
You take care,
