Default I-134 bank statement...they won't give my the info. I need!!!

I need to request a statement from my bank for the I-134 Affadavit of
Support, and I just called my bank to order this statement. They told
me that there are 2 letters I can choose from. One is a sponsorship
letter, and the other is a general account summary letter. But
neither of these states how much has been deposited into my account
over the past year, and they say they can't alter these letters to
include that information. The last person I spoke with told me that
these letters do include an average balance, but that's not what the
INS is asking for, right? Can anyone help me with this. My bank is
Bank of America, by the way, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Hi Alison,

My husband faced with the same situation with Washington Mutual.
What he did was made an excel sheet of the amount deposited and the bank attested the statement with the covering letter. We will submit same with the I-134.

DID INS accept that???? If they did that's a great idea because that's one part of the I-134 a lot of people have problems with.

Hi Angeles,

Its an Excel Sheet with a covering letter and stamp from the bank. It is an authentic document. Am waiting for my interview date when I will know the final outcome.

Another way to approach this would be to give the Embassy copies of your Bank Statements for the past 12 months. Luckily, I bank with a small bank and they gave me a letter as I asked for, but they were working from my own bank statements over the past 12 months and I also provided Pete with copies of these as further documentation.

Cheers,

Leslie

Before I knew that the bank letter was not a requirement as I used my income as proof of ability to sponsor, my bank only wrote out the simple sponsorship type letter, signed and notarized it. I did not include my annual deposits or balances. I had indicated that my paychecks were direct deposit and left it at that. Montreal didn't blink an eye.

I had the same problem (Wells Fargo Bank) although my letter she just stated "you can refer to the monthly statements..." to obtain deposit amounts.

I do have direct deposit however, would it be possible to get a statement from my payroll company and have them state these amounts were made via direct deposit and submit that with the bank letter? Seems like it might work but I don't know if they will accept it. (BTW my salary does exceed the 125%, if that makes any differance as to how detailed I need to be??)

I am supplying my payroll direct deposit statements for the past year
(Fiancee's interview is the 29th in Montreal). I'm hoping that works.
Question to Rete....you said you had your bank letter notorized....is this
mandatory? The directions that come with the I-134 only say that the
affidavit itself needs to be notorized...there's no mention of the
accompanying documents.

I've also heard from others that if you meet the 125% requirement, they
won't even look at any of the other support evidence. What are people's
experiences with this?

No it is not mandatory but the bank did it without asking. BTW you are using Montreal, if your salary is sufficient you do not need the bank letter. I only gave them one paystub which indicates direct deposit because my employment letter stated I worked for them for 11 years. I did it only because of my naivetee in not reading the form as an either/or statement. I took it to mean you need one of everything.

However, for others, if your US Consulate forms when received them, indicate you need additional information i.e. London requires tax returns/transcripts, then be sure that you have it.

I had the same problem with Wells Fargo. (grrr...argh!) I basically became their "worst nightmare" (alternate name for female dog) and told them that I didn't believe there wasn't a way to print out some kind of deposit history list. The girl that was handling my call finally caved and said she should print this sheet out...but would not add anything to it. When I did receive the verification letter from bank, it had a letter signed by Wells Fargo representative and the "print out" was enclosed...but there was no letter head on the history sheet. I just attached ALL together and used that as the total Bank verification.

Hope this is helpful. I too was surprised at all the grief my bank gave me about trying to get this verification letter. They also charged me $10.00 for this service. Hmm...I question the word service. lol!!!! I told them that if they were going to charge me $10.00 that they had better send me three signed copies. Sheesh!

My credit union would not do this either. I supplied photocopies of
12 months of bank statements with the deposits highlighted in yellow.
This was accepted with no questions (My UK husband and I are about
to celebrate our 4th anniversary)

Good luck!

Very good to know. That eases my mind a bit. I didn't want any bases
uncovered, so I sent my stubs to my fiancee as proof of deposits, even
though I was pretty sure I wouldn't need them. It's nice to have some
feedback from individuals that have interviewed at the same place.

Thanks for the insight.

Rete,
I'm in the same boat here about the 134. My bank wants $15 an hour to research my deposits over the last year. I've read the 134 over and over and can't see anything there about not having to send all the info they ask for, whether you are or aren't at 125% poverty level. I make around 35,000 a year and I'm assuming that meets the requirement for a household of 3......4 if you include my New Zealand fiancee. On what form are you referring to it being an either/or statement? I've read this many times now (the poverty level deal) on message boards but since I haven't seen any mention of that on an INS form, I'm leery of believing it. It really would be so much simpler for me to just include my year end pay stub (which lists my salary for the last year) with the 134, but thats not how I read it on the form. I'm not saying you're wrong, just looking for verification.
thanks
Julie

I had the same problem with my bank this month (Washington Mutal). They looked at me like I'd just asked the impossible from them. It took 3 different people before I got someone willing to help me.

Luckily I got a nice lady help me who manually added up my deposits for the last year and then just wrote up a quick letter including all the information they requested. I also had it notarized. Apparently they have no easy way to look at total deposits for the year. Which is strange since the INS requests it. Maybe she just told me that though hoping I'd leave......

my husband was going to have the same problem, but on form DS-2000 (i dont know if this is a typical form or just for the UK) it states:-

to substantiate the information given in the I-134, the sponsor should attach two or more of the following

1.notarized copies of lastest federal tax return
2. statement from the employer stating annual salary permancy of employment
3. Statement from officer of bank, date the account was openned, present balance
4. Any other evidence adequate to establish financial ability for his or her undertaking towards the applicant.

so my husband has not sent me no bank statement, he has sent tax returns and letter from employer and payslips. So i hope im not missing something or im in trouble.
