I-130a Question

I'm just at the stage of filling out this form and on page 2 it asks for information about parents.

On "Information About Parent 1" it asks for: Family Name (Maiden Name)

On "Information About Parent 2" it asks for: Family Name (Last Name)

Does this mean for "Parent 1" it has to be my mother and that I should use her maiden name even though she now goes by my dads surname?

That would make the most sense, yes.

Re: I-130a Question

I didn't even notice that when I filled mine in. I put my dad first and then my mum. Interestingly it then asks for sex of parent further down.

It'll be interesting to see whether I get an RFE for that?

Re: I-130a Question

When my husband filled his out, I noticed that it said that, so I had him put his mother's name first and then his dad. We did put down his mother's maiden name instead of his father's last name. Our documents were just received, so we'll see if that was the right way to do it!

Re: I-130a Question

I would guess this follows the same structure as having mother's maiden name on birth certificates.

Re: I-130a Question

I think I'll go with mother first and use her maiden name on the form then. I guess I'll let you know if it goes through ok or not.
