Default I-129F Question 12

I'm filling out the I-129F right now and I want to make sure I'm filling it out right. For question 12, I was able to answer that I acquired my citizenship through birth in the U.S. But there is a blank under it asking for a certificate number, date, and place of issue. Is that my birth certificate information or is that blank for the next checkbox over: citizenship acquired via naturalization?

Well I may be screwed :-( I got mine out to look at it to answer your question and I left it blank. I think you should fill it in with your birth certificate number, date and place. I hope they accept mine since I sent a copy of my birth certificate with it.

Roman,
My birth certificate, from Aladamnbama had a certificate number and date and
place of issuance. That's what I put in that blank.

Hi,

Mine had a 4 digit number in the top right hand area, and the date and place was somewhere in the bottom, I just put the date that it was processed. You may have to enlarge the darn thing to read it, I think they did them slightly different before (I'm 30) then they do now.

anyway, good luck with the process

Hi:

The latest revision of the form is the one issued in 2001 -- our office has the old 1980 and 1991 printed versions of the form. [BTW, the "Y" next to the issue date shows that prior versions can be used -- so the 1980 and 1991 versions are still good if you should get them by mail from INS -- we happen to use the latest ones off our computer program "Immigrant"].

The prior forms made it clear that the certficate number was for the Naturalization Certifiate. In an apprent drafting and formatting error, this is not clear on the present versions -- so a US born person can put in "none". If you are really paranoid, put in "none -- US born"

Thank you very much for the info!!

My birth certificate has a number on it, but I doubt very much that it means anything to the INS. The date and place would just be my birthdate and place mentioned elsewhere on the form. So, it does make sense that it's not for U.S. born applicants.

I just want to make sure I have everything filled out very completely. I have to go through the NSC and if they send me a RFE after waiting 5 months, I'm going to be upset. So, this form is going to be perfect by the time I'm done.
