No... nothing is necessary. People have different risk tolerances... perhaps yours is low enough that you don't need to spend anything extra to ensure peace of mind. However, if you believe this might be an issue, then perhaps you'd sleep better at night after a consultation with a professional.

It's your choice entirely. We aren't at all invested in the outcome of your case... but I'm willing to bet good money that you are!

In my opinion, it is necessary. Otherwise I wouldn't really make a point of bringing it up again.
If your budget can't tolerate a couple hundred dollars, it may be worth waiting until it can. I don't say that to be cruel or snide, just realistic. I personally feel like you've got 4 potential time bombs under your case and if it were me, I'd want to make sure before going forward.

Both of us were long-term unemployed when we did the immigration, so I understand budget-minded.

maybe we should indeed wait then.. i have never looked into it that much, but does filing for a k3 visa make it any easier as you are married then?

No...he will have to file the same paperwork and face the same issues if you do a K-3.

You might want to look into the spouse Immigrant Visa, though...not sure if the I-130 addresses all the questions the I-129F does. Read up on both, and compare.
