Hello Now that I realise that a letter of intent to marry is needed by both me and my
fiance in the I-129f process, how should the foreign fiance's letter read?

I found this example on this group 'from Johathan's site':

"I, YOUR NAME HERE, do hereby state that I am legally able and willing to marry YOUR
Fiancé(e)'s NAME HERE, and intend to do so within 90 days of her/his entry into the
United States using the K-1 Visa."

Should the foreign fiance's letter basically say the same thing? Also I've also seen
this stated at http://k1.exit.com/ :

"a letter from each of you describing how you met, your relationship and your desire
to marry---sign it and date it."

Is this the same letter of intent? I'm a wee bit confused here as this latter seems a
lot more in-depth.

Thanks for any clarification! Shonokin

The same as the US citizen fiancee's letter, adjusted for gender and, perhaps, geography?

I found this example on this group 'from Johathan's site':

Why shouldn't it?

Yes it does seem a lot more in-depth, doesn't it. Some people don't know how to answer a simple request without telling their life's story and documenting it with every piece of paper they can find since the time they were in kindergarten. A few people have created problems for themselves by telling the INS more than the INS asked to know in their desire to be convincing about the seriousness of their relationship.

Thanks for any clarification! Shonokin

The letter on Jonathan's site is the letter of intent which *was* normally asked for by certain US Consulates, Montreal being one of them. It was to reconfirm that you were still single and free to marry and were still intending to do so. In this way Montreal had the USC's word that it was on the up and up.

The letter of intent for the I-129F is slightly different. They want a little more information and you can just tell them that you met online, visited each other in person and have decided that you wish to marry. You are both free to do so and have planned your wedding for the 12th of never.

Thanks for the info Rita. Ours will in fact be going through Montreal. Do they no
longer require that statement? Just wondering as you refer to this in past tense. If
they still require it, is that something that goes with 129f as well or just to her
interview in Montreal?

My husband (then fiancé) got his K-1 from Montreal. If I am remembering
correctly, I believe sending a letter of intent was on his checklist he received
from the Consulate. I know I sent one with him - because I have a copy of it.

Same with us. The shorter confirmation of eligibility to marry and intent to marry was required to be brought to the interview.

This does not need to be your life story...Here is a light example:
--
I first met my fiance when we were visiting in a chat room online. We first met in
person on May1, 2000, when I went to neverneverland to visit my fiance for a week. We
continued our communications and met again in person at my fiance's home at
wannagothere when my fiance came to visit me on june 30, 2000. We became engaged when
we met in person on 9/20/2000 at gottagothere. See the enclosed proof of relationship
to verify these meetings.

I am free to marry and my fiance and I desire to marry and to live in the US because
my US fiance has 6 children from a previous marriage that need American schools, and
my fiance's job is in the US.

I-129f instruction 5.C asks for evidence that the two people have personally met within the last 2 years. Instruction 5.D asks for statements from the 2 people regarding their mutual intentions. These are two separate issues, but one follows from the other so it's reasonable to cover them both in a single document.

I like Alvena's example, complete yet concise.

I was under the impression that the letter of how you met was only sent by the USC? IS this true?
My girlfiend, the USC, wrote a letter of how we met, but I did'nt when she sent off the first set of K1 forms, we both wrote letters of intent to marry. Is this going to be OK? I'll be going through London Consulate if it makes any differance and NSC.

Default Diferences in Instructions/Requirements of I-129F Fiancee Visa Application

Rest easy Richard. There are several versions of the I-129F floating round out there. The one d/l from the INS website is the most current and requires dual letters of intent. However, if you walked into an INS office and/or ordered by phone or over the internet, chances are you would get the older version (which is still usable) which does NOT have the dual intent letter requirement and only requires that the USC send what yours did.

Default Tongue in Cheek

Alvena

You forgot to add the PS to that letter that you originally targeted an American citizen online as you wished to sharpen the con artist skills you learned at the Take It All For Yourself University and if you can't get the K-1, would you be eligible for an H-1B visa as you have heard there are wide spread opportunities within the US for the career you've chosen and that most Americans have graduated from the Easy Pickens' School of Learning and there is a shortage of people with your talent.

Gee, Rete, I guess I forgot that part <tongue in cheek>. However, I suspect that
anyone with that intent would be pretty disappointed with the state of things here
right now, jobs being fewer every day, and immigrants not being the favorite persona
to US citizens employers. alvena
