This is one difference I found between UK employment and US employment
practices.

The UK way is that vacation accrued in one year is to be used in the same
year.
Some US companies also have this policy. But there are some US companies
whose policy is that the vacation you accur in a year is for use in the NEXT
year. This sucks on employees in their first year of their employment, as
they have no accrued vacation to use. This doubly sucks on foreign workers
who need to use vacation time to travel home to family.

BTW the average American gets 10 to 15 days vacation a year.

That's why the avergae US employee takes more "sick time" than a UK
employee.

Unfortunately, the "laws" of common deciency are not legally enforceable.

It sounds like your boss' behavour is/was very demeaning towards your
husband. You would have to check with an employment specialist lawyer
(rather than an immegration specialist) as to if it was illegal.

Even though your are a "foreign worker", you have the same employment rights
as a US employee.

One way to look at this is to say "that's embarassing". Another way is to
say "yipee! Now I have witnesses!" :-)

Get your employer to put his new terms and conditions in writing. Then you
also have documentary evidence.

You probably won't win a court case, but you can cause so much trouble that
he may settle out of court.

If I misunderstood your advice for sarcasm whilst being - as my name implies - worried and stressed - then I apologise. I came on here for advice not to be made fun of. I had already said that I felt stupid for not working out a simple thing like deleting what I didn't want to show and I thought you were taking the p***. My mistake. I may be irrational at the moment, when you have this hanging over your head you don't think straight. If I were, maybe I would have called myself "little miss happy" or "happy & giggly" and not "worried&stessed". I don't think that warranted being called a bitch however.

Thanks Nevyn - I appreciate your comments. At the moment we have no idea what to do but maybe you are right about asking a lawyer's advice. His boss just seems to think he is going to walk all over my husband now and my husband can't do a thing about it. We weren't sure if we did have the same rights being foreign so that's nice to hear. Thanks again.
