I know you can call and ask them. I called the Atlanta Consulate (closest one to me) 5 years ago when I was the one who was going to move to the UK.
Broma, it's no fun doing the seperation bit, been there, done that for over 3 years of marriage. Our delay at being together, was 1/3 bad info from local INS folks here and 2/3 financial reasons. Keep your chin up!

They do warn on the web site that not all Visas can be issued the same day.
You need to make sure you have all the documents you need before going in if you want it the same day, including all the financial requirements.
