Talking Husband Immigrating to US - help

Hi,

I am American and my husband English. We have been married for almost 5 years and I have indef leave to remain in UK. We want to move to USA as I have been offered an awesome job.

I don't want to go without him but we have to apply for his visa.

Can anyone tell me how it works. I have the I-130 form and am going to send it in. How long does it take...what happens after I-130 is approved, etc.

Any help would be super great as I am needed in the US in a month and really don't want to be away from him.

Hi Christy,

You can file the I-130 directly at the London consulate. This is called Direct Consular Filing (DCF) here on the forum. Do a search on this forum for DCF, and you'll find plenty of helpful posts. This process is a lot faster than filing the I-130 in the USA, but it will still take longer than 1 month...so there will be some period of separation...maybe a couple of months.

Your husband should get his police report right away, that in itself takes about 6 weeks to obtain.

Best Wishes,
Rene

DCF is certainly the best way to do it.

My police report was longer than 6 weeks, they use working days.

But absolutely get that under way.

Consulate tends to slow down in the summer, could take some time just to get the interview.
