I'm 29 (USC), and Mark is 30 (UK).

We met when we were both members of an online dating site called Udate. Our chemistry was instantaneous, but due to work obligations we couldn't meet in person for several months. That allowed us time to really get to know each other on an intellectual and emotional level. Mark visited me for a month and, towards the end, proposed.

We are now applying for his K-1 visa, and trying to take each day as it comes. In additional to organizing everything for immigration, we're planning on me visiting Mark in the UK in February for Valentine's Day.

Richard (53)in Idaho and me Margaret (44 in a couple of days)from
Ontario, Canada met on an MSN Over 40's chatroom in May 2001. I was
new to the chat world and didn't realize this was a U.S. based
chatroom. I had gone in out of curiosity to see what it was all about
as I had heard co-workers talking about chats. Richard and I got to
talking to one another as friends via email, instant messaging, phone
calls. Neither of us was looking for anyone. Then the feelings began
to change. Richard had been divorced for 2 years when we met in the
chatroom. Richard had been married twice previously, I had been
married once and also had been in a common-law relationship, however
had been a single parent for 8 years at that point. He came to Canada
September 2001, proposed to me and we were married July 1, 2002 in
Idaho. I have 2 girls ages 22 and 19 from the first marriage (who are
back in Canada), a son aged 11 from the common-law relationship (he's
with me). Richard did not have children.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever seen myself marrying
someone from another country. Richard's a wonderful man, his friends,
co-workers and family are great people who accepted my son and I right
from the start.

I'm 53(USC), Deb is 41 (Canadian now USC)

We met in Mirc on the #New2Mirc channel (1/97) She knew the program. I did
too but I pretended not to so that I could ask her for help. She began
answering my questions and the rest is, as they say, History. We met face to
face 5 months later. One year after that we were married. Celebrated
Anniversary number 4 this year and it's been smooth sailing with only a
moderate chop now and then.

I'm 24 (USC), he's 23 (UKC).

We met when I spent my junior year of college abroad in Reading, England. I
took a part-time job at the "garage" BP gas station next door to my house, and
Pete and I were shiftmates for 8 hours a day, 3 days a week. Became best
friends fast and 2 weeks before I left to return to the US, we started dating.
Many visits later, Pete took me to Barcelona (my fave city) and proposed on
the steps of the cathedral when it was lit up at night. Married in March of
this year and have been able to be in the same country for 2 months total since
then. How do y'all do it?!?

Keith 43 (USC) and me Joanne 41 (Canadian) Truro, Nova Scotia.
We met on MIRC on November 9th, 2001. We then switched to icq, e-mail
and telephone. He flew here to meet me on New Year's Eve 2001. We
spent
9 days together in a ski chalet. I flew to Arizona in March to meet
his
family and then again in May for 3 weeks. It was during this trip
that
he asked me to marry him. Keith came back for a visit in June for 3
weeks to help me move after I sold my house. We started the K1 in
August and I didn't think we would see each other again until the
process was over but without saying anything he got on a plane on
September 11th and surprised me. He's a great guy and my very best
friend and I love him dearly! So here we are waiting and waiting for
our petition to be approved. I hope and pray that we will be able to
spend Christmas together......who knows?

Hi. Ok I am new here so this is my first post!! I (Helen from the UK) am 35 and Steve (47 from US) is 47. We met online when He contacted me for some infomation (I run an information site aimed at specific people) we struck up an imediate friendship and reamined good strong friends for about 4 years untill he visted the UK in Sept 2001. It was then we realsed our feelings. We have been a couple for about a year now. Using email & yahoo IM and at least one long phone call a day! He has been over for a few more visits (he works for United airlines, so travel is good!) And I took my kids over to see him in the spring for 3 weeks. Not only are we deeply in love, but I also fell in love with the city he lives in. That helps! But I would live anywhere with him. We both need to get our divorces finalized before starting the K1 & K2 process.

Glad to join you all!

this is probably people of different ages but is there a prevalent age group (i.e.
younger people/ older people with previous experience in marriage etc...)? I was also
wondering what brought them together (internet?) and what is their motivation to
choose to marry an alien (besides love)... I read that there are websites for people
who start with the obvious intention of finding a foreign spouse. So I wonder if
there is a specific thing that they are looking for and if this works out for them...
(My fiance told me he knows a couple of guys in the navy married to Filipine women
and that they are popular because they are "tame and docile" - BUT DO PEOPLE REALLY
DO ALL THIS BECAUSE THEY NEED FOR SOMEONE TO CLEAN THEIR KITCHEN?? HOLY S*IT... And
yes, people do ask my fiance why American women aren't good enough for him and I'm
being asked a similar question over here (Slovenia, Europe)?) It's an obvious form of
generalization because normally you don't pick someone BECAUSE of their nationality
but I'll tell you out of all kinds of people that I've known there's something about
American guys that I find extremely alluring.........

A statistic research would have been interesting, probably. I'm sorry if this is
personal - but thanks to all who care to reply.

I'm 24, my US fiance is 23 and we met by mere chance in a chatroom 4 years ago. We
met and fell in love 2 years ago. If it wasn't for him being in the navy this
probably never would have happened. We are close to file the petition for the K1 so
'our process' is in the beginning stage.

I'm 27(USC) and Rosita's28(Chileano). We met by chance while on vacation in
Cancun Mexico (No, not spring break) We met my first day there, about 1 hr
after getting to the hotel. Come to find out, she was leaving to go home the
very next day :-(. We had dinner together, went dancing all night and spent
all of her time together the next morning. By that afternoon, even though we
had known each other a little less than 24 hours, we both knew there was
chemistry there. We traded email addresses and phone numbers. She called
when she changed planes in Lima, Peru(To my pleasent surprise) and we have
been talking on the phone at least once a day since then. She was here for
the last two weeks in June, and I went to visit her in Santiago for the
second and third weeks of September. I am filing her 129F petition today. To
be honest with you, neither of us really wanst to get married right now. We
would rather live together for 6 momnths or a year and then decide if we
should maybe consider marraige, but there is no provision in US immigration
law that provides us with that option, and because I cannot afford to pay
tuition for her to go to school fulltime, a studen Visa for us is not an
option. Don't get me wrong, I love this girl more than anything, as she does
me, but we don't know if we are 'right' for each other, and have no other
choice at this point. She refuses to come here and live with me if she
cannot work, she will not allow herself to become a financial burden on me,
so we are going to get married so we can live together, she can work, and we
can discover if we are meant to spend the rest of our lives together. :-)

You folks are lucky you can visit both ways. My fiance and I met 2
years ago in a chat. Because of the turmoil in her country, Argentina
Ive been the one to travel, despite wishing to show her what Seattle
is like. Damn govenment ended the VWP and wouldnt give her a visa to
visit. Some cranky broad at the embassy thought she was a risk to
stay... Unbelievable.....that they let terrorists in who crash
airplanes into buildings and an honest woman can't come for a two week
visit

Mike, that is a shame that she cannot visit your home nor even see the country
before she decides to move here. It does take a toll to only have one person
able to visit, I know. My husband (UKC) is the only one at the moment who can
visit, which is a shame since he's the only one with a job at the moment.
After receiving our "500-600 days" notice, we decided that I would apply for a
visa to live in Britain with him while we wait out the INS. We are both
newlyweds however, fresh out of college and very low on the bank balances.
After my interview at the British Consulate in Los Angeles, they decided to
send the case for "review" in London because "nobody in the family seems to
have any money" (my mother-in-law who is our financial sponsor, had forgotten
to include her savings account statements and her regular bank account was 84
pounds overdrawn..a day before payday). While my case is in review, I cannot
visit the UK, and so they don't have to put a refusal stamp in it just yet, the
consulate is holding my passport. I can have it back, with a refusal stamp and
a ban from entering Britain...or let them hold it until they have a decision on
my case.

So having one person visit definitely takes its toll. It means the wait to see
each other again is usually doubled, until we can afford to have my husband
miss work and fly over, or even until his boss allows him holiday. He's stuck
in a job that he hates, and is treated with much disrespect but cannot quit
because his boss will let him fly over for christmas. Hopefully I can see him
again for our 1st wedding anniversary in March as well. Whoops, this turned
into a soapbox, forgive me.

I'm 22 (UKC) and my fiance is 34 (USC).

We met online via Yahoo chat, and clicked instantly. Soon after we started emailing each other, which led to telephone calls, and we had such a fondness for each other, as well as shared interests, and finding each other so very attractive. I was due to take a new job in Belgium in February this year, and decided to meet Sean in person before I started the job. Well, I met him, kissed him and knew that I couldn't go to Belgium, returned to the UK for a week to explain to everyone and then spent 90 precious days with him in the US. He came to visit me in Scotland in August, and we're just waiting for forever to start :-)

Peace,

D.
