Default How long stay out before wife has issue with greencard?

So let's say my wife has a greencard and I'm a US citizen.

If I accept employment overseas what can I do about ensuring my wife
doesn't risk losing her greencard?

How long can she be out and still not put her greencard at risk?

There is no hard and fast rule about this, each case is looked at on an individual basis. But, if she plans to be out of the USA longer than 1 year (some say 6 months), it's best to apply for a re-entry permit (via form I-131), which will allow her to be out of the USA for up to 2 years, and I believe is renewable for another 2 years.

Don't forget she must continue to file US taxes, and maintain ties to the USA during her time abroad...such as US bank accounts, own property, etc.

Being outside the USA also affects when she will be able to apply for naturalization.

Best Wishes,
Rene

In addition to what Rene says, it may also depend on the nature of your work and/or the organization you work for. In some cases, her residency may be preserved and/or she could be eligible for expedited naturalization.

More info required.
