How long do you have to be dating someone before applying for a K-1 visa?
Hi I am new and overwhelmed in the UK

How long do you have to be dating a US citizen before you can start the visa and marriage process?
I've read it's two years before applying and others are saying otherwise?

Hi and Welcome to BE! There is no specific length of time you need to have been dating. The important thing is that you have met face to face at least once in the past 2 years, and that you are committed to getting married after your arrival on the K-1. Even the engagement doesn't need to be anything formal, just your commitment to marry.

As Rene said, no length of time is specified, just that you've met within the last two years.
Essentially it wouldn't matter if you'd been 'dating' for an hour, proposed and then applied for the K1, so long as you've met within the last two years.

However the authorities ARE looking for genuine relationships and not those just for convenience.
So pictures of you and partner at various occasions, and as a plus with friends and family DO help.

We had them and were never asked for photographs for the K-1. We had them for the AOS as well of our wedding and the officer looked at the small album and handed it back. Didn't want any for the file. Photos do not prove a relationship. It only proves that you have been together at some point.

To submit the I-129F, the only thing needed is proof that you've met in person. We submitted photos, airline boarding passes, and passport stamps.
When it comes time for the in person visa interview, you may be asked for evidence of your ongoing relationship. Since we communicated solely by phone, we submitted phone bills showing the long distance calls, plus more photos. Ours was not UK, though, and I believe UK is even less stringent on seeing such evidence. Best to have it ready, though, just in case.
