How long after being married to US Citizen do i wait to apply for Citizenship ?
Hi all, hopefully someone can help with this one.Basically i want to find out
when i can apply for US Citizenship.
I married my wife in July 2001 in England(She is USC i am UKC),and when all
the I-130 paperwork was completed, I turned in my paperwork at L.A.X. in
Decmber of 2002.This date is when my green card started. We have to show that
we are still married this year between Sep and Dec so they can change the
conditional status of my green card to permanent.
Once that is done, how long do i have to wait before i can apply for US
Citizenship ?
Is the time frame measured from the time of marriage(July 01) or when my
Visa was issued(Dec 02) I heard that it was 5 years from the time of
marriage, can anyone let me know which is correct ?
thanks
Andrew

You are eligible to apply for naturalization 3 years (less 90 days) from the date you become a US Permanent Resident. The start date of the wait is the date on your green card. You can apply even if your removal petition has yet to be adjudicated.
D/L and read the instructions for the N-400. It is spelled out there exactly what the timeframe is and what other criteria you have to met in order to apply.

Andrew,
The time to eligibility for citizenship is not measured from either the date of marriage or from the date of issue of your visa. It's measured from the date that you were granted Permanent Resident status.
See 'A Guide to Naturalization' on the USCIS web site. It is quite clear and informative.
