Default Hopless waiting for an interview for the green card

I applied for a green card on October 2001 in NYC. I had a interview
date on May 5th 2004, but it turned out they didn't have my file. It
had been sent to Missouri (or so they said). I was told to wait. It's
been 3 years now, and I feel like it could never happen. I called
several times, talked to several people (800 number, as well as my
local NYC office). The only answer I 've gotten was: wait. No time
frame, no accountibility. It could be less than one year but it could
be more. I'm desperate. Is there anything I could do? Does anybody
have the similar problem? (New York office sent file to Missouri)

many local offices send files to Missouri for pre-processing.

Write to your local office and to your congressman. Calls are not effective.

How's that possible that you've got your interview without your files in NYC?
Mine was transferred in Missouri too but they said just for up front processing and after 6 months of that notice they saent me an interview letter for October 5th. So I assume that my files were sent back since they gave me an interview appointment.

FWIW, we interviewed in NYC in June of 2000. Our interview took place without the original file being there as it was still in the Lee's Summitt, MO cave where inactive files are sent until called for. This is SOP for the NYC office at least.

Your best bet is to contact your political representative's immigration liaison and enlist their aid in getting action on your approval. We got action by writing a witty but serious letter to the District Manager of NYC at that time and recently a phone call that our file had been received and our DAO was approving our case. Took from June til August, 2001 but at least it was approved.
