Default hey folks N400 and seperation

Been awhile since I got on here, life is good thanks to God
I've been had my PR for 4 1/2 years and thinking about naturalization
I've been seperated from my wife for 3 years and we're still good friends but haven't officially divorced yet or did legal seperation, will this be a problem at my interview?

Did you have to file for removal of conditions? Cause if you did, it sounds like you were separated at the time which could be an issue.

Mh,

Not relevant in your situation.

Is this becoming an epidemic, or are people just feeling more comfortable about 'coming out' about what they once said 'we can't stand to be apart'?

Regards, JEff

I asked whether you applied for removal of conditions and at which point in time, not whether you got LPR status before separation.

In this case, I don't see why you should have any problems whatsoever.

So I don't need any letter or proof of seperation?

You don't need anything at all. In fact, you shouldn't even mention it unless explicitly asked. Just apply for citizenship after four years and nine months based on five years of residence.

If I am remembering correctly (it has been a few years since I helped DH fill out his in 2003), you are asked on the form about your marital status. I would most certainly bring my separation/divorce documents with me to the interview on the off chance that they ask for them.

Since you are applying based on the 5 year ruling and not on marriage to a USC, it shouldn't be needed but better safe then sorry.

@ rete, we have not file divorce yet or any formal seperation so I don't have any paper work to show.

Then so much the better. Since your naturalization is not based on marriage, you shouldn't have a problem.
