Hey All, Im new!

Re: Hey All, Im new!
I would like to see Hollyoaks as it was in the very beginning. What I saw of it recently was a totally other show! Plus my inlaws live in Chester so I don't need a constant reminder of them...

Re: Hey All, Im new!
Hey Kim,
will you be IN DC or outside? I will be moving (all being well!!) just outside DC, a town called Leesburg, just past Dulles airport. Thought to be fair right now, it's all moving at snails pace, which is not fun, but I'm sure we;'ll get there eventually!!
Good luck with all your forms and stuff, I've found them easy enough so far...
Best wishes,
caroline

Hey Welshgirl!
I dont think you will be that far from me! I will be in Springfield which is also just outside DC!
We havent even started the visa work yet! Will be sending it all in when i go over in a weeks time so after that it will just be a game of waiting and getting things in order.
Are you going over because or work or marriage?

Re: Hey All, Im new!
Marriage, like you my other half is from VA...it makes most sense to move out there as his job is better and has better prospects than mine here. That said I have a teaching degree so might try and put that into use when I get the all clear!
You are only a couple of weeks behind us, but those weeks feel like FOREVER!!! I know it will all be worth it in the end though!

I'm from small-town UK and lived in DC myself through most of 2006; well not DC, but just below it, in Vienna / Fairfax, VA. It was freakin' awesome, loads of great countryside and leafy suburbia, but just hop on the Metro and you're in the centre of DC in no time. DC is an awesome, cosmopolitan, world-class city - you'll have a great time living in the area!
All the best - any more questions let me know.

Re: Hey All, Im new!
Hi and welcome
Springfield is pretty suburban Americana but you'll find some nice pockets, and if you hop the metro you can be downtown in less than 30 minutes or so.
It's best to think of your move to DC, no matter how much you are accustomed to the US, as something really foreign, like moving to Mongolia. That way you'll end up being surprised as the similarities instead of being dragged down by the differences (and there are many).
DC is a pretty good place to hang out as an expat as there are many others from all over the world in the DC metro area. Beside the large migrant populations from Vietnam (just wait until you try 'Pho', the Vietnamese noodle soup--excellent in NoVa), Bolivia, India, Nigeria you also have a the embassy and media classes who send a delegation to the US from pretty much every country in the world. Annandale, which is next to Springfield, has a very large 'Korea town' area if you want some good Korean BBQ or kimchi. Nearby Old Town Alexandria is pretty proud of their Scottish traditions and has quite a few Scottish events every year

Anyway, have fun in your paperwork.

I'm a newbie to BE, but have been there/done that with the fiance visa last year. Hubby is here now and LOVES life in the US. Give me a shout if you have any questions about the K1 visa process!
