HELP!!! Now what do we do??
I emailed London yesterday about hubby's file and the fact that he has heard nothing from them..................got this reply today:
An appointment has been scheduled for December 30. You will receive written notification of the date and time of the appointment in due course. Thank you for your email correspondence. Consular Information Unit U.S. Embassy London CONS/CIU/SF Now, keep in mind, he will be here on the 19th of december until the 12th of January.......have two choices really......try to reschedule appointment, or have him leave here early, which is an expense he cannot afford. CAN we reschedule??? How easy is it to do???? Any advice will be welcome!!!! |

It isn't really that bad girlie, this is what you have been waiting for!! Unfortunately, he cannot reschedule his flight, because it is non-transferable, nor non -refundable. We will just contact London again about rescheduling interview..... :( |

Cindy, can you tell me this? Would it be possible for him to just change his return flight ticket???? Then he could just go back earlier from here and keep the appointment on the 30th. |

I am a bit concerned now, that a mistake has been made. He has never even recieved his Packet 3. EVERYONE gets that right, regardless of how they filed??? |

Re: HELP!!! Now what do we do??
[QUOTE=Noorah101]Maybe he did submit Packet 3 by printing the forms on-line and sending them in, rather than waiting for the P3 to get to him?
Rene[/QUOTe No, he says he didn't do that...wanted to, but didn't. Should the letter he recieved about his file being forwarded have said anything about waiting for Packet 3?? I am repeating myself, but does EVERYONE do a packet 3..regardless of how they filed? He DID recieve a checklist, but not the official IV-15 with the letter, telling him what he needed for interview, but no to send it back, just to bring those things to interview with him. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR As for changing the date, our embassy in Ankara had no problem with me rescheduling, even at the last minute, and they even provided me with a date during the exact week I requested one. Seems to me London would also work with you to postpone his interview date until he gets back. It only postpones it a couple of weeks, that's not too bad, if you don't mind waiting. From what I can tell, changing the visa interview is not as difficult as changing the AOS interview. Rene |

When we applied for an immigrant visa in Russia I never received a packet 3. I phoned the Consulate regarding packet 3 and 4 and was advised to check for my interview date online since sometimes packet 4 NEVER arrives in the mail, although I did receive it after all. I was also told to write down a list of documents needed for the interview and to start working on them as soon as possible and NOT wait for the packets to arrive. The cosulate scheduled my appointment WITHOUT sending me packet 3. I received packet 4 about 2 weeks PRIOR to my interview, I had already had all the stuff ready by then. I never sent any kind of checklist whatsoever. i dowloaded the forms from the internet, got my affidavits, pics, polise certificates, translations, copies etc. without waiting on the packet 4 to arrive. So, there you have it. My interview was in August this year. Good Luck |

Personally, I would reschedule the interview date, then I would have him complete packet three and send it off as soon as possible. They are very good at changing the date for you, I had to do and they were great. I also knew a girl who had to change it several times via email. |

Thanks everyone for the replies and advice!!! I have emailed London, but am sure there will be no reply until Monday at the latest. One more question...........is it ok to download the Packet 3 Forms and use them? I on;y ask because we were told NOT to use a downloaded I-864, so I just want to be sure. |

Re: HELP!!! Now what do we do??
We processed our application in Russia. The I-864 was mailed to us by the joint sponsors. It was downloaded. No problem using it because the signatures on it still have to be notarized.

Re: HELP!!! Now what do we do??
I changed my ticket 3 times, I had bought a BA whatever was the cheapest from US to UK and was slightly optomistic as to when I would get my interview.
They charged me once for changing the date, with BA you have to give them so much notice, a couple of weeks I think, worth checking, a quick call will resolve. |

You may call them and change your husband's date of interview which is possible. make sure you write them as well as speak to someone at the consulate. |

No, we did not DCF...........as you said, I am here, he is there. This is exactly everything we HAVE done so far. Married in Scotland, I came back here, he stayed there. I filed I-130, got notice of reciept, then notice of approval. He recieved DS230....returned that with $335. I then recieved "bill" for I-864, completed and retruned that. The he gets the letter in October, stating file was forwarded to London. After that, nothing until I emailed them on thursday. He is going to call them on Monday...............see what they say, and we will just most likely reshedule. We keep telling ourselves, we have waiting this long............lol, whats a little bit longer. Financially, its just better for him to reshcedule than to reurn there earlier or change flight altogether. Thanks everyone................I think my panic has finally passed :) |

Before interview, which must be right, becuae you said it contains appointment letter. If his interview date is December 30th, aren't they pushing it a bit??? |

Like I mentioned earlier, your husband must have received packet 3 from NVC. This packet contained DS-230 part1 and to send copies of the first two pages of his passport. After he sends these documents, NVC finally check to see if everything is in place. If evrything is in place, NVC sends your husband's case to the consulate here in london. The consulate then send your husband Packet 4. Your husband will definately received packet4 before his interview. It is not compulsory that your husband sends the check list back. On the day of the interview, he will have to take all the documents that was sent to him by the embassy. Yes the embassy here do not waste time with CR-1 cases sent to them by NVC. Please try not to confuse yourself with other cases. YOU ARE DOING CR-1 THROUGH NVC AND NOT DCF. Like I said earlier, there is no problem to change your husband's date of interview. But be advice that you are not the one who is going to give them date for your husband's interview the next time. If your husband requested in writing to have his date change for interview, the embassy will have 100% rights to set any date for future interview. Please take this advice. Let your husband go for the interview on the date they mentioned. |

Also, I realize we are doing CR-1 and not DCF.......DCF was not an option for us. Also, I have tried to encourage him the keep the date he has now.....december 30th, but he says he cannot afford to change his ticket, then turn around and buy another one to come back here on. I have left that decision in his hands............we have waited 4 years total to be together permanently, we can wait a few more months!! |
Re: HELP!!! Now what do we do??
wifey,
One source of confusion that I see here is the use of the obsolete Packet 3 and Packet 4 terminology. The packet system no longer exists, but there are enough similarities with the K visa process that the terms are still somewhat useful. Such is not the case with the immigrant visa. The DS-230 that your husband received (you and he both should have received a DS-3032 prior to that?), and the I-864 bill that you received, are somewhat comparable to Packet 3. But they come from the NVC, not from the IV unit at the consulate. This web page and the links on it may help you to understand some things a bit better: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigra...s_family4.html The NVC schedules the interviews for a number of consulates, I don't know if London is one of them. There's a list somewhere, I think on the DoS web site, but I don't have the URL handy. Regards, JEff
