Again, apparently I'm not wording things in the correct way or something. I'm not sure why you respond with "what more does the man want?" These are my questions re: his situation, not his. My goodness!

Well, thanks for taking the time to reply to me in any case.

I was not replying to you LC but to Support Immigration. Your bf has the opportunity to marry you, a USC, and apply for adjustment of status. Since he didn't use fraudulent documents and INS "forgives" overstays of those that legitimately enter the country but remain to live and work here without proper documentation when they marry USC and adjust status, he doesn't appear to have much to worry about. The intervention of an immigation attorney to help him apply for adjustment after your marriage should be all that is required. Your bf also has the ability to pay his overdue traffic ticket in the UK and right his DL problem in that country and his Consulate will assist him in making his passport current. So all in all, he isn't so badly off now is he?

The nerve that was touched is not because of your post but because of his arrogance in ignoring the immigration laws of my country and flaunting his good fortune in finding a way out of his dilemna while the rest of us played by the rules and spent time away from one another while awaiting our respective visas to have them migrate to the US.

Hey that's INS for ya and life sometimes. The guilty find a loophole out of their punishment while the law abiders take the long road.

As for the "have a nice day", thanks I did. And you're correct. Expect judgment from a post that shows so many of us that there are those, even from first world countries, who will use whatever is at their disposal to do with their lives what they want and the hell with the laws.

Default One more question to "Support Immigration"

Dear Support Immigration:

I have a kind of off the wall question for you...not sure where you are, but just curious. In your neck of the woods, do you find that there are a great deal of English people in your neck of the woods. Because I never knew any English people here until I met my boyfriend. There are a lot of them! I think it's pretty cool.

Give him a break - they just want to live here.
Make him a citizen and he will pay taxes.

Sure, they can be judged. After all that is the nature of newsgroups.
In all fairness. This is why it is so hard for Russians to get tourist
visas. Yeah, I know he isn't Russian.. However, the point is the same.
People that come in as tourist and stay forever, have hurt those who
legitimately want to visit the US as tourists or to visit relatives.
After all, in your case, it is not like he came here to marry you, he
had been here for years.

In your case, he had been in the US for years. So, you opened up the can
of warms when you were talking about the people that nake it hard for
"the good ones". The real truth is that people that do what he did make
it ahrder for the "good ones" who only want to visit their family in the
US. IMHO, the poster that called you on that comment was right on with
the followup.

He could have been doing that for years. All he needed was a Taxpayer
ID.IRS doesn't care about his INS status.
Even if you work illegally, you are required to file a tax return.

I think what upset him was your comment about other people ruining it
for "the good ones". Visa overstays make it harder for others to come
here as visitors. It is so bad, that getting a tourist visa from some
places is very difficult. If he wants to adjust, fine, but to the people
that are denied entry due to the previous actions of others, he is "the
bad people".

Dear Mrtravel:

AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING IT TO ME!!! Now that you put it like that, I can definitely appreciate why he was upset. I had absolutely NO IDEA that "Visa overstays" impacted others so negatively. I had no idea what a "Visa overstay" was until a little bit ago. I'm slowly finding out about all this immigration stuff, and it's difficult to absorb, much less know all the different details.

That's awful about the tourist visa--again, I had absolutely no idea. Like I said, I'm COMPLETELY ignorant in these matters, and I I appreciate your politely explaining why someone would think my boyfriend is "the bad people." Obviously, they have very good reason.

Thank you again...you're very kind for taking the time to explain in a way that would help me to see it in from another point of view. I like you, Mrtravel. Are you a teacher or a therapist? (Just kidding)

Holy S____ Mama ... Michael turned on the LoveCrumpet ;-))) Way to go Michael. We won't tell the Missus on ya!

Hehehe LC ... Michael's interests in life are computer technology, stock watching or is that sock washing, and the wifey-poo and her daughter who is now legally his daughter and his wifey's Russian mama who will be making her way to the US to live asa her daughter is granted naturalization in a 1/2 year or so. But Michael is dragging the poor woman here against her will. He always maintained that his m-i-l wanted nothing to do with migrating to the US and only wanted a visitor's visa to visit with her off-spring. You building the addition to the home yet Michael ;-))

P.S. the Post was in jest you guys.

Also MT is not a therapist although many of us have wondered how he escaped from his.

The Bill Murray way, baby steps..... (or since he got this from his
therapist, may be it was actually Richard Dreyfus' way)

Since my MIL was turned down once for a tourist visa in Moscow, I have
personal knowledge. The good news is that she was approved in
Ykaterinburg last year. She is again applying there in the next week or
so. Hopefully, she won't need an interview.

For the record, I am a Customer Support Engineer IV. I work in tech
support for a well known Silly Valley based company. Fortunately, I work
just over the coastal mountains, 30 miles from our HQ, and not actually
in the Silly Valley. My much smaller networking software company were
acquired by this company 6 1/2 years ago. I met my wife about 4 years
ago while she was visiting on a B1 visa. We married at Red Rock Park
outside of Vegas in early March 2000. At the end of March 2000, I flew
to Moscow for 3 days to file the I-130. I returned a month later to
visit her family and friends, and to join her for her interview. DCF
process totaled 40 days from filing to interview and getting visa.
Unfortunatly, USCs have to live in Russia to file DCF now. This means my
wife will not be able to DCF her mother when she becomes a citizen

She worked, in Siberia, for a well known Silly Valley based computer
company which has lost that solar glow in recent times. We live about 2
miles from my office with our very intelligent bilingual 8 year old
daughter who is now a USC thanks to the Child Immigration Act Of 2000
and adoption.

Cheers

Misha

Wow, Misha...that's OUTSTANDING news about your wife's approval in Ykaterinburg! Customer Support, eh? That would explain your being able to explain things politely. My friend is a Customer Support engineer for a computer company and she talks them through a lot of technical computer-related functions, etc. You have be a double-whammy--patient AND smart AND a good communicator--to have that job. I've never heard it referred to as "Silly Valley" but that's cute!

I know Red Rock VERY well, it is beautiful. That must've been gorgeous to be married there. The only direct interaction I've had w/ the lovely people of Russia has been in ballet class. The Russian teachers (ballet) are very different than American teachers. VERY different, and I like it. I prefer their way of teaching. They teach a different style--I'm learning the Vaganova system--that is far more difficult, but pays much more attention to correct technique, breathing, beauty, & strength. It requires more hard work, but it's very rewarding, I think. One of my Russian teachers, his English is not so good, which is fine since ballet classes are mainly in French. He expresses himself differently--he gets right to the point, & sometimes cannot explain as well, which is fine because he demonstrates. He REALLY cares about dancing well and dancing correctly. He is AWESOME.

I felt bad for him yesterday, though, because one of the ladies at the studio said that he's really sad because his puppy is sick and had to be taken to the vet. He's REALLY upset, and I wanted to say something, but he had to hurry out after class. I'm a big-time animal lover.

Sounds like your 8-year-old is brilliant!!! That's great that she's bilingual. If I am ever blessed with children, I will teach them another language other than English. I think it everyone should know how to speak more than one language. That's just my opinion, though.

Cheers to you!

Really? Someone said I was a jerk because I told them they couldn't

It was a cool and very windy day in March.
Present with us were just the limo driver (white stretch), the
videographer/photographer, and the minister hired by the agency.
We paid the limo guy extra to take us to the Clark Country Recorder's
office so we could file the minister's copy of the marriage license. We
stated in a great room at the Four Seasons with a huge window angled for
a perfect view down the strip. Four Seasons is located on the top 5 or 6
floors of the Mandalay Bay. It has a separate entrance. I believe it is
LV's first (only?) AAA 5 diamond hotel. Afternoon tea there is great.
On our wedding night, we went to see Lord Of The Dance at NY NY. Our
first meeting had been about 1 1/2 years before that, in LV.

She entered kindergarten when she got here, even though she was 6, as
recommended for language skills. She picked it up right away. At home,
she is very good at switching between the two. My wife has a BA in
English Linguistics and an MS in Electrical Engineering. She is
currently in the Linguistics MA program at San Jose State.

Default hi again, Mrtravel!

Dear Mrtravel

"Really? Someone said I was a jerk because I told them they couldn't avoid the affidavit of support"
Who said that? I'm still new to all of this...what exactly is an affidavit of support?

That sounds like a great way to have a wedding! Nice one! And the Four Season! Fantastic! Lord of the Dance, too? You guys lived it up! Nice going!

Sounds like your little 8-year-old bilingual princess will soon be teaching her teacher! Good for her to be able to switch between the two languages--that is NOT EASY. I visited another country, and I speak Spanish pretty well, but I found it difficult to switch back and forth. I kept getting stuck. Eventually, I KIND OF got the hang of it, but not that well!

Smart lady, your wife! I took a Ling class and it was not as easy as I thought it'd be. Not even close. My mom's a "brainer," too. She's a Materials Engineer. Got her degree in Chemistry. I didn't inherit all the technical science & math genes! I got the creative ones, though!
