HELP!!! bringing a slovak fiancee to the USA
Hi all
here is my problem in summary format
-i met a slovak aupair in london 1.5 years ago.
-we were together for 1 year in London.
-i moved to USA on L1 5 month ago and she went back to czech (where she lives with family)
-i been travelling back and forth every month to prague to see her
-i got engaged last week in prague
my question:
is there ANY way in which i can get her in the USA for 1 or 2 weeks, or 1-2 month as a tourist (whats the best approach? should she say shes going to see her fiancee?) or do i have to get married b4 she can come.
i've been told that its very tough to get even tourist visa for young, non professional women, who cant really prove STRONG links to their home countries???
HELP!!!

Re: HELP!!! bringing a slovak fiancee to the USA
Me and my wife are both Slovaks living in USA. I am H1B, former F1, and she
is H4, former F2. Before we got married, she was denied twice for F1. They
wanted to see $64k for the 4-year study program. We got married, then she
got F2 easily. Transfer to H visas was easy, as far as I was approved for
H1B. I'd say it is tough for you female to get a visa. It might go
differently for you, though. Maybe she can apply in Prague, what is supposed
to be easier. However, my mom was denied in Prague just last week. I invited
her (took full financial resp.) to come to see us on Christmas. Not a
chance.
It took us 1.5 years before we met again together.

Re: HELP!!! bringing a slovak fiancee to the USA
Your best bet is certainly to get married and have her apply for an L-2.
Getting that should not be a problem.
As for the tourist visa, it may actually be possible in your special case.
As purpose of the visit, she should state "marry my non-immigrant fiance
and change to L-2 status". This is specifically legal (it would NOT be
legal if you were a US citizen or had a Green Card, but as a
non-immigrant, this is permissible), and should take care of the
immigration intent that usually prevents young women from getting tourist
visas.
