Default help!!! - anyone in australia

OK, for the perth people first :

did you have to fly to sydney for the interview on the K1? or did you go to
perth, and how long ago did you get it?

I rang the 1902- number today, to find out if i could get the forms sent to
me, and they said that no forms will be sent out until i get approval from
the ins, yet other people have done it all before approval from the ins.

I'm confused!! also, what vaccinations do you need to get (if any) ?

thank you for your time!

Lisa

Lisa,
I rang the 1902 number back in February 2002. It took a second try but
they were quite happy to send the Packet 3 forms ahed of time.

The only vaccination I was required to have was the Diptheria/Tetanus
one. All other vaccinations were noted as 'age inappropriate'. At last a
good reason to be 48 :-))

Hope this helps.

Rob :-)

Lisa,

I was in Adelaide for my processing (Jan- April 2002) and did have to go to Sydney but I know for a fact that those who were applying in Perth at the time (this is up until April 2002- I don't know if anything has changed since then but doubt it) went through the US consulate in Perth and had their interview there too. Lucky for Perth people as the interviews were being issued within days of sending in the checklist. Again I don't know how different the situation might be now.
I also called the 1902 number and requested packet 3 not prior to the approval but as soon as(the day after) I was approved. I didn't want to wait for the VSC to notify Sydney and then to send the packet out. They asked some minor details and said they would pass it onto the correct dept. at the consulate. I'm not sure whether one of the requirements was the fact that I had been approved although I don't think they actually checked. I had someone from the correct dept. at the consulate return my call within about 24 hours and they again confirmed what my request was and said they would send it out that afternoon.
I wouldn't panic about organising the packet 3 requirements as the police certificate, x-ray/ blood test and doctor appt etc. was so easy and quick in Adelaide, and I would assume Perth would be similar. Like the other poster said the vaccinations are also a breeze. I just needed a measles, mumps and rubella booster and tetnus/diptheria booster because of my age. The others were not necessary.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions: [email protected]

Good Luck!

ok, i rang the 1902 number again today, and finally got hold of someone that
was willing to send me out the forms...

she then put me through to the consulate in sydney, and, lo and behold
(after the third attempt) i got through...

she's going to send the forms out, and while i had her on the phone, I asked
her if i had to travel to the other side of the country to have the
interview..

yes. I have to fly to sydney for the interview!

you'd think, because i live in a state where there is a consulate, they'd do
it here, wouldn't ya? instead, now, i'm going to be finding the cheapest
possible flight, to fly to sydney for a damn interview!!! not happy at all.
but, it has to be done. *sigh*

-- Lisa

(who is now happy that the forms are being sent out to me)

Not just for Syndey, but for nearly all countries where K visas are
processed.
For instance, people in Russia have to go to Moscow.

Lisa,
If your fiance can come to Australia for the marriage you can also do a
Direct Consular Filing (DCF) which cuts out the entire INS approval cycle.
I've just completed this myself and it's much faster than the K1 route.

See http://k1.exit.com/dcf.html for details
and especially note the mentions
made regarding Australia...

Rob (in Melbourne but not for much longer )

That's a shame - they were definitely doing interviews in Perth earlier this
year (see http://www.kamya.com-
/interview/k1int_1.html#AU
). I understood Perth
and Sydney were the two consulates here that did it. Have you tried calling
the Perth consulate directly?

Regards,
Barnes (former Perth boy, now Melbournite, soon to be Pittsburghian)

three phone calls - one to the visa and travel assistants on that damn 1902
number, one to perth, and one to sydney :

perth : we don't do that anymore
sydney : we do all the visa applications and interviews now.

i'm going to try my hardest to see if i can get the interview done in perth
due to financial reasons (ie, I can't afford
accomodation/airfare/travel/food expenses if i go to sydney)

i swear, i'm going crazy...

THREE people told me that sydney do all the processing/interviews

but, i'm determined... i do no want to hang around sydney for a long period
of time... i got lost in that airport, and i don't want to get lost in the
city!!

gonna ring sydney tomorrow, and beg and plead with them if it can get
processed through perth, due to finances... its annoying... i don't
particularly want to spend $500 on an airfare, plus accomodation, plus food,
plus transport just for an interview!! i cannot justify spending that much
to go on a day trip to sydney!!

now, if it was for a weekend, that -might- make it a little more feasible...
but not just for a day...

(finished rant)

I have recently arrived in the US from Perth after receiving my visa but i can tell you that i tried EVERYTHING i could to get an interview in Perth rather than Sydney, but to no avail.

It seems that everyone now has to go through Sydney and in the end my daughter and i had to fly there for our interview and my poor husband (we married in the US in April) had to fly in from the states just to hand over the I130 form which took about 5 minutes!!

Before we even had the interview we had to part with $2000.00 AUD regardless of whether it was approved or not! Luckily we got ours straight away but we were the only couple out of 6 that were there that did.

Good luck in your endeavours.........and if you do end up in Sydney, enjoy the view from the building......it overlooks the harbour and is magical!
