I havent heard this one discussed and I thought I might run it by to see if
anyone has any knowledge of it.
Short synopsis...I am USC, wife here on K1 (currently preparing AOS paperwork),
3 month old baby (USC).
I am looking into getting Hoosier Healthwise (Medicare or Medicade Insurance,
not sure which is which) for the little one. Anyway, its a goverment sponsored
health plan where I would basically receive free or cheap coverage depending on
my income. I am currently going under the presumption that this will have no
affect on my wife's AOS (as far as Aff of Support and public charge
disqualification) since the baby is a USC and my wife will not be receiving any
of these benefits. I will not be putting my wife on the plan (unless someone
can show me that its OK).
Well, any thoughts, comments, complaints, commentaries, words of advice/wisdom,
etc.....
Thanks,
Jason

Your child as a USC has a right (if he or she qualifies) to any and all government sponsored benefits. It is quite common for children of immigrants to qualify for things that their parent(s) may not. The Affidavit of Support was for your wife, not your child.

Call them and ask them outright if your foreign, non-adjusted wife, qualifies. I know that here in NYS that health insurance clearly states available to all legal immigrants to the US. It is not medicaid or medicare but a health insurance provided by the State and one must qualify for it in terms of inability to provide health insurance through employment or limited income to pay for private insurance. Those on welfare are not qualified for this health insurance.
