My US wife and I filed all the forms for AOS/EAD etc in August 2002
but the INS sent them back three times for obscure reasons! Anyway
they finally cashed the checks on the 4th attempt and we got the
receipt which is only dated October. I may be getting a job offer next
week. Has anyone in New York City been able to get EAD before the 90
day rule?

I believe the answer to that is no, at least not in recent months. Three
people on this NG including myself have had to go to the INS in NYC AFTER
the 90 days was up to get our EAD in person but you can't do it UNTIL the 90
days are over.
