Got a job, how much will H4 cost??

Hey,

I have just flown back from an Interview in Atlanta and the guy is happy to
give me the job, however his finance department are not happy with paying for my wife and three children's visa's etc. I have said that I am happy to pay the full cost of my familys visa's, travel costs etc.

All I need to know now, is how much it is actually going to cost me.

Does anyone know how much this process costs, or know of any good web sites that have this information on?

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Col

Hmmm, makes you think about what kind of employer that is...well, ok, thats not your question.

Go to the webpage of the usembassy in your country. For example in Germany, it is 85 Euro per visa (which is approximately $ 100). If the fees are the same in each country, you should expect around $ 400 for you families visas.

Thanks for the reply I will look at the embassys web site.

I am guessing that they do not want to pay for the airfare as well as the visa's.
I dont mind as this job is a dream job! I will pay for everything if they want! :D

Cheers

Hi,

I have had a look at the embassys web site as well as the department of state's site, but even using their search engine, I cant find any pages that quote the cost of the visa's.

Can anyone help out?

:)

"Pay a visa application fee: Every visa applicant is required to pay a visa application fee of £60.00."

what kind of visa is your prospect employer getting for you? As far as I know, the H1B cap has recently been reached, and the earliest that you can get a H1B visa ist for fiscal year 2006 (starting 1. October 2005).

Not without knowing the country in which you plan to apply for the visas.

I am from the UK and plan to apply for a visa to the US.

I am aware that the visa cap has been reached, I believe that the company is planning an intercompany transfer visa ;)
I have also been told by the company that the H1B cap is actually different for each applying country. They have many foriegn employees and have been through this process many times.

Oh, so you are already working for the company in the UK. Thats good, but even less understandable why they want to transfer somebody but not taking care of his family.

What do you mean with applying country? a country can not apply for an H1B. only a US-based employer can apply. There is a certain amount (5000?) of H1B visas set aside for a few countries in South america, I believe, but thats it. You fall under the cap, and that has been reached.

You can't apply for US visas in the USA, it has to be done at a
USA Consulate. It's usually best to apply in your country of
citizenship or normal residence, and sometimes you have to do it
there. I'll assume you'll be applying in the UK.

If you go to the web site for the US Embassy in London, select
'Visas to the US', non-immigrant visas, applying for an H or L,
you get to http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web/visa/niv/happ.htm
which says they cost GBP 60 each. There appears to be an additional
charge for L-2 visas for British citizens (if your family end up
using those), which doesn't appear to be specified - I guess you'll
have to ring them and ask. There will probably be various extra
costs such as courier services, travelling to the Consulate for the
interviews, and so on.

There's no such thing. If the US comany is the same as your
current employer, they could possibly get you an intra-company
transfer, which gets you all onto L visas rather than H.

I wouldn't put much hope in that.

They probably are thinking of an *intra*company transfer visa. That's an
L-1, and only available if you have worked for the same company in the UK
in the last three years for at least a year (in certain cases, six months).

    > I have also been told by the company that the H1B cap is actually

That makes me suspicious. The person who told you that has no clue. The
H-1B cap is global, only the Green Card quota can be different for a few
countries (and then only if you were born in India, China, Mexico, or
the Philippines - and it is never better than the worldwide quota,
always worse). I would be suspicious because the person apparently claimed
to have done it many times, so he should know better.

That said, the visa fee at the consulate has two components:

- the application fee is always $100, or the local equivalent.

- the reciprocity fee is set to be approximately the same as what your
country of nationality would charge a US citizen for a comparable visa.

Since you apparently are a UK citizen, the reciprocity fee is, as far as I
know, $0. So the total fee would be $400 for a family of four.
