Default Going to the Chapel.......

Oh wait, we did that yesterday

It's official. I'm a Mrs.

It was a very quiet ceremony, in the cute courthouse chapel that San Mateo County built a few years ago. Blessedly, I did not get the giggles, a habit of mine in fits of nervousness. Notably, the official Marriage Commissioner got weepy. She also took personal pictures of us for her collection.

The day started out somewhat frenetically, as the bride had been up all night finishing her very simple wedding dress because she'd been working so intensely and so many hours the past three weeks that it hadn't been finished yet. Although I wore off-white, I gave a nod to my unconventional groom (who wore a royal purple shirt and a tie covered with his favorite dalmatians) by wearing my royal purple high heel suede pumps that I've been dying for an excuse to wear now ever since I bought them 2 years ago And my flowers, which I decided at the last minute -- on Wednesday -- I simply could not marry without even if it was a courthouse wedding, were perfect (here is a plug for Michaela's Florist in Palo Alto if you ever need perfection for a wedding on less than 48 hours notice!).

In the end, my hair was strange because I'd no time to curl it properly having spent all my time on my dress, my daughter (the witness) finished putting on my makeup as we were waiting our turn at the courthouse and I was on the phone making sure our luncheon was all set, my dress had its last button put on 25 minutes before the ceremony, and the bride drifted off to sleep in the car after the wedding while we were driving to a somewhat formal but very lovely restaurant here in Palo Alto that accomodated our somewhat boisterous wedding party (me, Dekkie, my children, and two of our dear friends) with aplomb, at my request putting us in a nice quiet corner so we could toss things at each other without embarassing the straights.

While there was no pagentry, and almost none of the the "traditional stuff", I have never been as happy as I was yesterday. Probably because I married a great guy, who I love with all that I am and ever will be. We've been waiting a long time and all the waiting is finally over

For our honeymoon, we went this morning to the Department of Motor Vehicles to get Dekka's California drivers' license. Because he did not take his Aussie license with him (no way is he planning on surrendering it!) he got a permit instead of a temporary full license, until he takes his behind the wheel exam. They have a new queueing system at DMV in which you must get an electronically issued number at the front desk when you arrive, whether or not you have an appointment. <scowl>. So if you're going to DMV anywhere urban, be prepared to stand in line in the street for a huge amount of time prior to actually getting into DMV itself. The good news, however, is that things go speedily once you actually get in the doorway. The bad news is that if you want to actually be seen at 9:30 for a 9:30 appointment, you'd better get there at 9 so you can clear the doorway in time.

On that note, I'm off to make goo-goo eyes at my Beloved Husband (that simply ROCKS calling him that) some more. And get his AOS paperwork in the mail! When I get the pictures sorted, I will post a couple

Bye for now!

Are you saying that your honeymoon was spent in a California DMV? That should be illegal! J/K

Congrats
