I went down to Phoenix INS two weeks ago and waited in line to get an interview to
submit my AOS and EAD, well today was the day.
I arrived at 2:15 as requested for a 2:30 appointment and was told to sit and wait
for my name to be called. About 2:40 I was called to a window and asked what I was
there for, I handed over my I-485 package and the lady checked everything and took my
I-94 out of my passport. She also asked if I had a copy of Cathy's birth certificate
to prove she was a US citizen. I wasn't expecting this and it wasn't on any of the
lists that I remembered seeing so I had to say I didn't have one. She rearranged all
the documents into a folder and then asked if I was applying for EAD and I handed
that package over.
She went away for a few moments and then came back and gave me the receipt for the
I-485, I-765 and fingerprinting fees. She then said something so quietly that I
couldn't hear most of it other than the fact that I should sit down again and wait to
be called.
I sat there for about 25 minutes and then my name was called along with 4 others and
we were escorted into another room where they photographed us, fingerprinted us and
then handed us our 1 year EAD's !
I walked out of there at 3:45 with my EAD in my wallet and a big stupid grin
on my face!
No idea what will happen about the missing copy of Cathy's birth certificate though,
nothing more was said.

Is your EAD photo a full frontal face pose or a 3/4 face pose?

Hmmm don't recall that you need a birth certificate with the I485. You might with the I-130 though. Oh well, you can bring it for the interview.
Nice to see that they scheduled your appointment for submission within two weeks of request and that you walked out with the EAD card on that very same day.
Congratulations

Interesting, he didn't mention a I-130, so I thought he came in on a K-1. The I-129F
or the I-130 would have required proof of citizenship.

Thanks Rete,
I'm still puzzled about the birth certificate but after all the bad press I'd seen
about the Phoenix INS office I was very pleased with the EAD!

Yes,
I came in via I-129F and K-1 and the USC's birth certificate isn't on any of the
lists I saw for filing the I-485. Guess I'll just have to wait and see!

It shouldn't be required since the USC would have had to prove it already for
the I-129F

That's what I thought. Guess I'll just wait to hear from them!
