FYI - 2006 Poverty Guidelines released
Just wanted to let people know that the US Dept of Health and Human Services has released the 2006 Poverty Guidelines, which are used to determine the USC sponsors' minimum income requirements.
http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/06poverty.shtml
IMPORTANT: For immigration purposes the minimum income requirements are 125% of the amounts listed on the above webpage. So, to determine the correct minimum income required, be sure to multiply the figure corresponding to the USC sponsor's household size by 1.25.
Example using two-person household size:
USC sponsor lives in continental US: $13,200 x 1.25 = $16,500 minimum income required
USC sponsor lives in Alaska: $16,500 x 1.25 = $20,625 minimum income required
USC sponsor lives in Hawaii: $15,180 x 1.25 = $18,975 minimum income required
Eventually various webpages will pop up online with charts providing the 125% amounts. In the meantime, doing this simple calculation will let you know the amount you'll need to meet the affidavit of support requirements.
