FINALLY!! Got the K1!!!
WOOHOO!! WE GOT THE K1!!!
Finally. Don't listen to all those people on www.kamya.org who say interview at Montreal is easy. The guy asked 20+ questions, no idea why.. I have NOTHING unusual.. No record of any kind, nothing.. Maybe just because I was the last one? What an insane day. I was the LAST ONE to leave the building, just because of the way things worked out.. Add to that the fire alarm (I'm not making this up) and the fingerprinting device SNAFU, and I was there from 9:15-1:40 and 2:50-3:45. Mostly just waiting. And three trips through security (we all had to go back through again after the fire alarm!). Had all the paperwork ready - was done with the admin part in less than 10 minutes, including paying the cashier. Timeline: Submit K1 (CSC), Oct 15 NOA1 - Oct 21 RFE - April 6 NOA2 - June 23 Interview Date: September 24. <rant> What REALLY made it aggravating (besides my car breaking down on the drive in!) was meeting the guy beside me who applied in MAY 2004 via Vermont and was approved in June 2004. ONE FREAKING MONTH versus EIGHT. MUST. RESIST. URGE. TO. SMASH. THINGS. And he didn't do any internet research or anything, and had no RFEs or anything. I guess ignorance really is bliss. </rant> Anyway.. We're hoping to have a ceremony on September 24 (one year after I proposed), and file AOS ASAP. One question about AOS: do we need a notarized copy of the marriage certificate, or will just a plain copy do? If we're living in Fremont, CA (Alameda County), which office do we mail the AOS application to (it's all mail-in now, right?) My head is still spinning... Mattias |

Congratulations, Mattias! Just reading about it makes my head spin....
Have a great wedding day! Elaine :) |
Re: FINALLY!! Got the K1!!!
Congratulations but sorry you had such a lousy experience with Montreal.
We're one of those people who posted to Kamya with our experience in Montreal and it was a breeze. Questions were minimal, under five at least, and a lot of chatting about the air force. Yup and we, too, went through Vermont and would have had it in one month but delayed it a bit because hubby was here in the states visiting for a month so it took us 2 months and 2 weeks. Also congratulations on the upcoming nupitals. Ours is the 26th of September, wow we've been married 6 years already. Rete |

Congratulations Mattias! Have been watching your progress, and hoping to read something like this!
We also had a fingerprinting machine snafu... the machine was working about 25% of the time, so no one got their visas that day... had to return for it the next day. Frustrating then, but sort of funny now... Our anniversary is the 19th... a few days before your upcoming ceremony... we'll be thinking about you on the day! Have a great trip to California! |
Re: FINALLY!! Got the K1!!!
Congratulations, Mattias! And I would send in the certified copy of the marriage certificate, and also have another one on hand to show when you have your AOS interview, just in case. :)
Best Wishes, Rene |
