filipina need help
I'm 26 year old Filipina. I was married to an American guy for a few years. We met in
Medical School at Southwestern. I got pregnant, dropped from school. Never finish.
Our marriage fail. Then my husband took our son to the states and won't return. It's
been one year already. Now he served me with divorce papers. I can't go to states. NO
visa. I really miss my boy. My husband left me pregnant. Now I have a daughter. But
in three months he's only sent two thousand Peso for support. Not enough.
Main thing is I want to see my boy. If I could get child support, that'd be helpful.
I come from poor family so no resources.
Question: are there free legal clinics in America or On line that could assist me?
would what my husband did be considered kidnapping by US law? Any one that can offer
advice, please do!
I'm a UP grad and have heard all the anti American rhetoric, so I hope this sad story
doesn't encourage those comments because I don't need it right now!

US law takes child abduction very seriously. If your husband took your son out of the Philippines on the understanding that he would soon return, and if you can prove that he tricked you in this way, then he could be in a lot of trouble. Use the internet to find a law firm located in the city or State where he is now that specialises in family law. They will probably give you basic advice by e-mail, and might even act for you without a fee in a serious case such as this.
Also, since you wish to visit the USA to see your young son who is there, that is a good reason to request for a visa. I suggest that you contact a travel agent with a US visa service -- there are lots in Manila -- and ask advice. Bring along all relevant papers.
There are various not-for-profit organizations in the USA that might be able to advise you, for example www.jbfcs.org
Good luck!
