File retired?

My husband has been approved to have the conditions removed from his permanent
residency, but when we received his paperwork we realized that when we moved from
Seattle, WA to Connecticut, they did not put through his change of address and
forward the file to Hartford. When he called the Seattle office to have them do so,
they told him that his file had been retired to Missouri and that they thought he was
already a citizen! I called a national info line, and was told that he'd have to go
to Hartford in person to have them request the file.
Has anyone else had anything like this happen?
Thanks,

Yes we have had experience with our file being sent to Lee's Summit, MO for central filing while we were awaiting the AOS interview in New York City. It is not a big deal in your husband's case as he has been approved for removal of conditions and all he needs to do is have the Hartford INS Office place the stamp in his passport and order the new green card. Your husband has to go to the Hartford office in person with the approval letter and the required ADIT photos and they will do another I-89 for him and send it to Vermont for manufacture of the green card. Your file being in MO is not a biggie for you and will be called up if and when your husband should ever go for naturalization.
