fiancee visa

My application for a visa for my fiancée from Nicaragua was received
by the BCIS on 9 March 2004. They said that it will be 150 to 180 days
before I will be notified of results. Are they stating a time period
that will be longer than necessary so that I won't bother them or is
this the time that it normally takes? I have been told that after the
BCIS approves it, if they do, it will be another 2 to 4 weeks for the
FBI to process it after they receive the papers in their New Hampshire
office. Could someone confirm that this will be the approximate timing
schedule before I have an idea of the results? Will I have an idea
when it leaves BCIS for the FBI check?
Thanks for anyone who may be able to cast some light from the
end of the tunnel!

Times printed on NOAs or given out by the mis-information telephone line are "fiction" according to Udall and the experience of many posters to that group. You'll find a ton of K1 folk over there.

I went to alt.visa.us.marriage and searched for posts by Matt Udall
on "processing times" I could not find anything on finding a
formula to help calculate the *overdue* date or NVC timelines.
If anyone has a suggestion that would apply please let me know.

Unfortunately, your assumption is not correct. As meauxna pointed out, the
number of days are indeed to a large degree fiction - but the actual times
tend to be longer rather than shorter. As a rule of thumb, I would expect
your fiance to arrive in the USA after eight months to a year and a half.
And in case you are wondering: as a US citizen, you do get very
preferential treatment. By USCIS standards, that is lightning speed. See
http://www.kkeane.com/lobbyspousal-faq.shtml for the nightmare that others
are facing.
