Hello all..
I am a US Citizen and my fiancee lives in Brazil. We have been gathering
all of our stuff to apply for a fiance visa, and I am ready to file it...
but then a couple of days ago, we heard that there might be a much faster
way to bring her into the US. That is to get married in Rio first, and then
apply for the I-130 at the Consulate in Rio. From what I've heard, it's
possible to get a visa approved in 2-4 months doing it this way... Is this
common? I know the fiance visa typically takes 6 months and it seems like
most couples choose this method... but we are looking at all of our
options... what should we do?
Thanks so much for any help!

If u can do DCF (Direct counsalor filing) by getting married in Rio and also if that process takes 2-4months then go with that... This way i believe as soon as ur wife enter US she will get a green card and u will be saved from a lot of hassle afterwards... also the fiance process can take upto 8months if u are going from TX service center...

if you have the time/money to get down to Rio for your wedding (special steps involved), then certainly DCF (as the I-130 filing abroad is known) is far superior. Your new spouse will enter the US as a fully adjusted Permanent Resident/Green Card holder and will not need to do more paperwork for about 2 years. Our DCF took 33 days total.
Read about people who have done this/discussed this for Brazil: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=br...ased&scoring=d
and a good guideline to the process here: http://k1.exit.com/dcf.html

Wow! Great information! Thank you so much for the info about the DCF!
We will take this path instead of the fiance visa... sounds like it is much
more straight-forward, and less stressful, and FASTER!

Do DCF period. It's actually cheaper.

DCF is not a possibility for many people.
Finance visas K1 are taking several months less than marriage K3 visas, and
these are taking many months less than a I-130. Times depend on which
service center you have to go through.
Go to a site such as, www.immigration.com
and check on predicted processing times for the different service
centers. These times come from government sources, but are misleading in that
they generally greatly underestimate the time you will have to wait. Also,
they don't say how long the processing takes after the visa is approved
which is likely to be another 2-3 months if your case is a simple one.

I can only add yet AGAIN Madelon, that the K1 visa versus the K3 visa time frame depends on WHAT Service Center you go through. TSC is currently taking a good six months for those for example and my K3 went through in 54 days.
