Re: A few questions on the GC and I131.
We had a consult with a lawyer and in those free 10 minutes he basically gave us all the information we needed to get on with it ourselves. It wasn't worth it for us to pay him $2500 just to give us the same information and tell us how to write our names on a form

Oh I'm sorry, I wrote that very late last night. What I meant was that lawyers aren't worth it for a simple situation like mine (no criminal history, changing from VWP with no overstay, no background complications and so on)

On the other hand, people who try to adjust status from the VWP should be aware of the risks involved, even in a "simple situation" like yours, and they might feel more comfortable knowing a lawyer is helping then every step of the way, even attending the AOS interview with them, to ensure that things go right. You are right, it wasn't worth it for you, but it could very well be worth it for someone else in your exact situation, who might feel the need for "insurance".

I totally respect anyone else's decision to hire a lawyer, if only for a sense of 'reassurance' I just think people ought to do a lot of research into what service that lawyer will provide and if they can do it themselves, before rushing into things and throwing a wad of cash at someone (though I wouldn't mind if someone threw a wad of cash at me ). I'm just saying research before rushing into anything.

Further query: Ever wonder why immigration lawyers do not like fee contracts with the fee payment AFTER the successful conclusion?
