Family reunification--can someone please explain?
Hi everybody,
I keep hearing left and right in my community about some kind of
family reunification law that one could apply to get here or stay
here.
I am confused what exactly does family reunification mean? For a US
citizen, I believe family reunificaiton would mean the possibility to
bring the parents over here. A citizen can petition for a brother but
the wait is 10+years. Can a citizen petition for the brother/sister
who is in US, and can the brother/sister wait here until a visa is
available? Does the brother/sister need to maintain legal status in
the mean time?
Is there some family reunification law that expires this year in
September and troguh which a Citizen/LPR can bring his parents over
here?
I would greatly appreciate if someone could answer this questions.
Many thanks
Corina

I don't know what your community is smoking, but there is no such law.
It is always the best to ignore rumors.

Teh sibling would have to maintain legal status on his or her own. With
the wait time (12+ years), that's pretty much impossible.

There is nothing new nor expiring. Citizens could always and continue
to be able to petition for their parents, provided that the US citizen
child is at least 21.
