F-1 and unauthorized intership
Hi, I am currently attending at Community college under F-1 visa. In
my school, they have business class call "Business Co-op experience".
If I take that class, do I have to apply for the OPT or CPT. Besides,
if I take that class and don't report it to my Int' Advisor, am I in
any trouble. Last time I ask my Int' Advisor whether I could take this
"Business Co-op experience", and she said that I could take it, but
she didn't mention any thing about OPT or CPT. So after takng this
Business Co-op experience, I transfer to another 4-year college. ANd I
apply for an OPT when I finish my degree. Will the USCIS know that I
already took the Business Co-op experience in my previous community
college
Thank you

If your first job experience was in a on-campus job (i.e working for
the accounting services of the university), that was completly legal.
If it was off-campus, chances are that USCIS won't find out about that
(especially if it was unpaid).
Let's put it this way: There's a good chance that they won't find out.
But if you lie by saying that you never worked without the appropriate
authorization and they do find out about it, you would be in deep
trouble.
If you have something in writting (or even an email) from the first
int. advisor saying that you can work, some people in your case would
continue to claim that that was legal, and if caught, would say that
they truly believed it was legal (all immigration forms ask you to
certify TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE)

If the co-op experience is paid, yes. If it is not paid, maybe not. Check
with the company and with your international student adviser.

Maybe.

Probably not. And USCIS will not care, unless the experience was paid and
you didn't get CPT or OPT authorization. USCIS does not require CPT or OPT
for unpaid internships connected with school.

Why would you need to be on OPT to do co-op? They are differnt things.

Re: F-1 and unauthorized intership
sometimes you might need CPT for that.
