Default F-1 applying for green card

Hi, I appologize in advance if this question was already covered, I
couldnt find any information, so I decided to ask you guys! I am
currently an F-1 student in the US and I intend to apply for a green
card. My I-20 expires in May, 2008 so this shouldn't be a broblem! My
question is when I am applying which address should I include, the one
here in the US or the one in my country? Some people tell me I have a
bigger chance if I put the address in my country! If I include my
address here, and win, should I go back to my country or I will be
called for an interview here in the US?
Thank you!

Do you mean you want to participate in a DV lottery? It's not exactly "applying for a green card", so you need to be clear on that.

You can use either address in your country or in the US. If you win, you can choose to go through consular processing in your country (which is sometimes quicker and easier) or do an adjustment of status without leaving the States.

Thank you very much for your respond!
I am sorry, I realize the difference! I am going to participate in the
DV Lottery this is why I need some information! the problem is that I
am still a student and if I have to go back to my country to go through
the consular processing I dont know how long is it going to take. I
would lose my status, and at the same time it is not certain if I would
actually be approved for a green card after the interview. In this case
I lose both! I came in 2002 with J-1 visa and changed my status to F-1
here, I havent been back since! So going back, even if I win the
lottery, in case I am not approved( because I didnt go back when my J-1
expired) I would lose the chance to come to USto continue my education
and it would be very complicated in applying again!

Something to worry about if you win perhaps.

Well, this is why I needed to make sure which address to include!

Thanks anyway!

usually adjustment of status is a lot slower than consular processing. But since you don't want to risk it that much - do adjustment of status. :)

You will need proof of high school education equivalent, and a birth certificate if you win. :)

Hopefully, you were not subject to Home residency requirement as J-1, which will preclude you from using your winning ticket (unless you get a waiver, which is difficult).

Good luck!
