Default engagement ring receipt

hi all,

this is my first message to the site and it's been of great value to my fiance and i so far, so thank you all. we're currently in the throws of getting our I-129F stuff together and one thing that has popped up in the question of evidence is providing a receipt for the engagement ring. we've got other financial evidence (contracts for hiring out a hotel for the reception and confirmation of the wedding date from the chapel) but i haven't got a receipt. i could get one, but it's going to be a pain in the butt considering where i bought it (overseas).

any thoughts? thanks in advance.

An engagement ring receipt is not a requirement actually. Not everyone exchanges or gives a ring at the time of engagement. Some people will give a family heirloom or a necklace or a promise of a ring later on for a special anniversary because money is tight at the moment.

The I-129F is concerned with the fact that you have seen/met each other in the flesh during the last two years. Give them dated photographs if possible, copies of airline tickets, boarding passes, hotel receipts if you stayed at a hotel, etc.

You might want to give the K-1 FAQ for this forum a read:

Rete,

many thanks - all the stuff you mention (and more) we've managed to pull together with the exception of a hotel receipt - great idea

i'm sure i'll be back in touch soon.

bye for now...

Yes, some of us don't have the elusive engagement ring. And the whole engagement party thing? What's that all about?

here's how it was for us... "you know what, we should get married..., yeah I agree.. when should we do it... India, Thailand?,.... no, maybe we should wait till we get back to Europe, it's more practical.. OK..." etc etc and so it went from India to Tennessee.. so be it.. maybe Tennessee will prove to be just as exotic (or least just as weird!)...

Hi

Just a thought to cover this 'hick-up' in your preperation ........ If you have access to a camera (especially a digital camera) why dont you take some photos of you and the ring together and also some close-ups of the ring. I'm sure it would catch the INS examiners attention/interest .......... a change from seeing a plain run-of-the-mill reciept.

Best regards for your file preperation and for the coming months ahead

I wouldnt worry about this. As long as you have proof that you met(photos, emails, letters, or phone bills) you will be fine.

Philip is always so excited about the story behind my wedding set that he tells EVERYONE.

He even went into it with the INS officer at our AOS interview. He just kept going on and on and she kept looking more annoyed!

The whole time I was giving him the "shut your mouth" hand squeeze, but it didn't phase him.

Men!

I think an engagement ring receipt (or even insurance policy/appraisal) is actually a really good idea, one we didn't think of, but I also don't think it'll make or break your case.

I find it amazing what people think of to stick in their applications. I wish I would have had this help when wondering about what to put in mine!

Pondhopper, I live in Indiana (hopefully temporarily) at the moment, but Tennesee is the easiest state (besides Nevada!) to get married, so we're going to go to the Smoky Mountains for a week to get hitched and have a mini-honeymoon (though our first year together was like a honeymoon as much as we travelled!).

I am NSC, but I'm optimistic we will hear something in the next month or so.. fingers and toes crossed!

Good luck and have fun!
