What is this EAD stamp I here about? Can my fiancée get that from customs in
Detroit? I still have file for employment authorization, correct? I believe
it's the I-765. What does the stamp do?
Thanks
Ron

Ron,
Customs inspects your baggage, not your immigration papers.
JFK in New York is about the only POE where we hear much about getting the EA stamp anymore. If you check the POE List at http://www.k1poelist.com/ there isn't anything reported for Detroit since last September, during which time period some people reported getting the stamp and some people reported not getting the stamp.
A K1 is EA - employment authorized - incident to status.
An EAD - employment authorization document - identifies one as being employment authorized. (Note that being EA is pretty much useless without having an EAD to prove it, except at the SS office when applying for a SS#.)
There are two types of EAD, a card and an ink stamp on the I-94 entry/exit card.
A K1's employment authorization lasts as long as their K1 status lasts, after which time they need to apply for employment authorization using form I-765.

I see, so basically that means she has employment authorization until we get
married, then she must stop working until the 765 is approved?
