Default EAD renewal - What do I do?

Just posting this again in the hope someone may have some advice.

Last year I filed my I-485 with the VSC, along with my I-765 and AP
application etc. We lived in Maryland at the time so that's where they
go. My EAD came through within about 6 weeks. It expires at the end of
September. No word from VSC about the AOS interview since then, apart
from a fingerprint visit to a local office in November - that seems
normal. The case status online mentions the fingerprint visit and says
it's all in train. So here's my problem:

We have moved to New York state recently. I got a job here. We didn't
know where we were going to live until recently, so I told the Service
Center of my new address a week ago. I couldn't have told them
earlier. I also sent an AR11 plus I wrote to the VSC telling them of
my new address and asking nicely them to hurry up (couldn't hurt;-)

My EAD expires in a couple of weeks. I applied online for a renewal
back in June, over 90 days ago. Nothing in the mail except an NOA in
July.

There have case status notices online against my EAD renewal receipt
no. to the effect that they sent a request for additional evidence or
info. There have been 2 of these, one dated before I changed my
address with the Service Center, and one that dates from the day I
changed my address with the Service Center. I haven't received
anything by mail from them. It's been 6 days since that last notice.
Both dates correspond to days I have called the Service Center, so I'm
wondering if their automated messaging system is flawed and it really
refers to their *receiving* a request for information.

Anyway, leaving aside this esoteric question, what do I about getting
my renewal EAD? The nearest BCIS office is in Buffalo, and it has
jurisdiction for my part of the state, however, according to the BCIS
website the I-485 and my original EAD application are dealt with at
the VSC. Does this mean the renewal also gets handled at the VSC? I
know I can get an interim EAD if it hasn't been issued within 90 days,
so should I just go to the Buffalo office with all my paperwork and
get one? Will this work if my original applications were/are handled
by the VSC? And of course this leaves aside the question of whether my
change of address has actually gone through their system yet.

Any advice appreciated. I just get someone from the Service Center
phone-in blithely telling me I can call them back for the information
after 14 days from the mailing of the notice if I haven't received it.
I tell them by then my EAD will have expired but that's ok with them.

Thanks.
