Default EAD in Houston

Well, my EAD still hadn't shown up yet - my NOA date is Oct.15 - so, I
decided to make the trip to the Houston BCIS.

Got there yesterday morning at 7:30, stood in line for about 15 min to get a
ticket and I received ticket #190. They were only on 115, and my ticket
said that it was approx a 5 hour wait. There are 10 windows available
there - of course, only 4 were open. By noon, they were only on # 150 and
then it was obviously lunch time. All the windows closed at noon except for
one.
I had to pick my son up from school, so, I had to leave by 1:30 at the
latest to make it there on time. I knew that since there was only one
person processing from 12 till 1 that there was no possible way that they
were going to make 190 before I had to leave! So, I ended up leaving at
about 12:30.

Went back there this morning at about 7:15, stood in line for almost 45 min
to get a ticket. By the time I got up to the window, all the tickets were
given out. Apparently, I had missed the fact that the Houston office
closes at 11:30 on Fridays!! The only good thing that came out of this is
that the officer at the window gave me a numbered ticket for Tuesday -
number 10 - but I have to be there by 6am. He said that I would be
guaranteed my EAD on Tuesday.

So, I guess I'm up a little earlier on Tuesday morning! I'll let you all
know how it goes - as I will hopefully have a job very soon (a company I had
interviewed with called me yesterday to get my drivers license # and SSN to
do a background check on me!).

Hello fellow Canuck,

Can you please help me with me EAD questions?

We are doing a K3. I'll be living in Dallas or Phoenix (just waiting to find out in March).

Anyways,

is it so that I can go in and get my EAD the same day in Houston, instead of mailing it in and waiting months? I can wait all day if I have to, no problem.

So, is this the case? or did you have a special circumstance?

thanks

DeAnna,

hope you get the job.
Sorry about the two useless visits in the office. But soon you'll have your EAD, which is good.

My 90 day window ends February 16th. And I can't wait to finally have my EAD. Still looking for a job in Denver, though. Haven't had much luck...grrr.

Hey Zenas,

I did see your other post - re: obtaining a same-day EAD.
I have only read of one story (on the kamya website) where one of the
posting couples went into the Houston office to apply for AOS and EAD - and
they had posted that they had received the EAD same day.
I don't think that is the norm - and I honestly don't think that happens
here (or maybe not anymore). Everyone else that was sitting in that waiting
room were either past their 90 days of waiting, applying in person or had an
appointment to pick up their EAD.
Unfortunately, even if there was such an office that gave same day EAD's,
you would have to live in their jurisdiction.
My circumstance is that I've already waited my 90 days - so, I'm eligible
to go into the office to get a temporary EAD until they've finished
processing my 1 year one.

As a K3, I'm assuming that you can apply for your EAD as soon as you get
here - along with your AOS papers - so, if you need it quickly, you might
want to make sure you have all your AOS and EAD papers done in advance and
then walk it thru whichever office you're going to ASAP. However you do
it, it'll still be 90 days to get your EAD - but, who knows, they may end up
processing it faster than 90 days, you never know!

Good luck!
DeAnna

Thanks GoodGirl!

I know, the economy sucks! And this is the first time that I've ever
really been unemployed, so its driving me completely insane.

Good luck with your job search!

Sorry, I just saw a previous post of Rete's that indicated that K3's must
send in their papers to Chicago - I assumed that it was a district office -
so sorry! I was K1, so a little different circumstances!!

Good luck!

Hi,
As a K3er you HAVE to file for EAD through Chicago/NBC. Look at the 765 form for the EAD and it has the address on their for the K3 folk, make SURE and send it to the right address!!!!
We are currently on day 101 waiting for ours. My husband is flying to Atlanta to the district office Thursday to get his since it has been over 90 days.

Well, I figured I'd better do a follow-up on this one!!

Went back to the Houston office yesterday (Tuesday) with my "appointment"
letter in hand - at 6am as requested. Turns out, this was just a "get to
the front of the line free" letter!! I still had to stand outside until
6:30am - although in a smaller lineup for "appointments". After they let
those of us in the smaller group in, we still had to queue up to get a
number. That took another 1/2 hour.
Finally made it up to a window to talk to an officer at about 7:30 or so.
She spent a whole lot of time, initially, ignoring me as I was standing at
the window, talking to her coworkers and wandering around in between asking
me various questions.
I firstly gave her my EAD NOA and the original application with the
biometrics stamps (which she didn't want - she handed that back) - then she
went on about needing the original I485 application and receipt. I was kind
of pissed because she insisted that I needed that to expedite my EAD. I
obviously didn't bring that with me!!! After punching away on her computer
and talking to more coworkers, she asked me if I had originally "emailed"
this application - I said yes, I had "e-filed" !! Then she said "oh that
explains it - do you have your original EAD application?" I had given that
to her about 1/2 hr before and it was still sitting on the desk between us -
"This is what I needed!" she said!!
Well, after that it was a quick piece of paper printed out telling me to
come back on Wednesday (today) for my EAD. Got out of there around 8:30.
I was pretty pissed when I left there yesterday since the guy on Friday
told me that I'd have my EAD on Tuesday!!
Anyhow !!! Went back there this morning for my 7am appointment - got
called up in about 15 min - had another polaroid and a fingerprint - they
laminated a brand new card and I was out of there before 7:30!! Yay!! I
FINALLY have my EAD!!
Here's the best part - its for an entire year!! I thought it was only
going to be temporary until they finished processing the original!!
Then, checked online this morning - my EAD was approved YESTERDAY and they
will be sending me a card in the mail! We'll see if I end up with 2 cards
or not!

I applied for - and received - my SSN shortly after I got here (last July)
.... Why is your husband waiting for EAD first? I was K1 - is your hubby
K3 - is that the difference in the way we have to apply for SSN? I know
that my son (K2) is not eligible for SSN until he receives his EAD - which
we haven't bothered to apply for anyways as he's only 15 and has no desire
to work at the moment!!

Wish your hubby loads of luck for Friday!!

I really really understand this, I was there this morning and to say it was a joke is a joke in itself. People just give you wrong information.

Yes DeAnna he's a K3 and sadly ya gotta have the EAD first to get a viable SSN, just like your son as the K2. Thanks for the good wishes.
