EAD Card
Hi,
I am due to start my new job on 1 June. My 91 days is next Wednesday. I have arranged to go on the 91 day and get an interim EAD. I have just checked on the USCIS website that my EAD has just been approved. Could someone advise me their experience in terms of how long it will take to issue an EAD card. Much appreciate. Gracie |
Re: EAD Card
Hi Gracie -
A few weeks ago my husband got his EAD card in the mail just days after the online status said he was approved. His application was done at the new "National Benefits Center" (formerly Missouri Service Center, I think?). I'd give it a couple of days from now and if you don't get it by day 91, then go get that interim, just to be on the safe side. Good luck, hope this helps! |
Re: EAD Card
It was 6 days from online approval to getting the card in our case (see timeline below). You might have a problem getting an interim EAD when your 1 year application is approved. My advice is to wait for the card to arrive.
Also, rememeber that you need to get your SSN once your EAD arrives. |

Gracie If you go to local office to apply for an interim EAD card, the first thing they will do is check on their system the status of your case. If it says its approved, they will not issue you an interim card even if its 90 days past.. that's per my experience. They, for sure will tell you to just wait for the card by mail. |

Can I just confirm that - by inference - what you're saying is that if your temporary EAD is due to expire and your permanent one isn't anywhere near ready, you'll be issued an interim EAD for the gap? I've read so much here and elsewhere about people having to give up jobs after 90 days, but it seems like you're suggesting that it's possible to avoid that. Despite all I've read about temporary/permanent EADs and SS#s, I feel like I still know no more than when I started and this is an area of concern for me. I realise that my situation is far from unique, but I really don't want to be a burden to my new wife and her two daughters for a day longer than is absolutely necessary. Thanks, Andy |

Thanks, Andy You can only request an interim if you filed for a 1 year EAD and haven't had a decision after 90 days. For example, if you just have a temp 90 days stamp or EAD from a K1 visa, and you haven't filed AOS/EAD apps, you can't get the interim. If you already filed AOS and EAD, if your EAD hasn't been approved after 90 days, you can request the interim. Kate. xxxx:D:D:D |

Assuming someone's gone through the process you mentioned and - now awaiting the 1 year EAD - can the interim EAD be collected "over the counter" on day 91? If this is the case, it would suggest that nobody should be unable to work for more than 90 days from AOS and applying for the EAD, however I know things don't usually work that fluidly around here, so I expect I'm wrong :) Cheers, Andy |

My 91 day is Wednesday tomorrow. Luckily my EAD card actually arrived yesterday, so I don't need to go now. You can check the status of your EAD application on the following link: https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/js...d=bN77cNrmWBwf As long as on the 91st day, your status on line is not yet approved, they will issue an interim EAD to you and you can start working immediately. Hope this help. Gracie |

With that being the case, I can't really understand why anyone would need to give up a job that they are already working at. All the best, Andy |
Re: EAD Card
[i] It is Gracie. Thanks! With that being the case, I can't really understand why anyone would need to give up a job that they are already working at. All the best, Andy 1. Coming here on fiancee visa ( good for 3 months) 2. Stamped EAD upon entry to US (good for 3 months) 3. Got employed.. while preparing for the wedding of course 4. Finally got married before BUT close to the date of expiration of the EAD and visa 5. Applied for AOS and EAD. you get the receipt for the EAD 6. Days pass, your temporary EAD expires, but your application is no where near the 90 days processing date to be entitled to an interim....that means you're no longer authorized to work 7. You will have to tell your employer your situation and he says he wont take the risk.. so you know the ending. I hope this helps you. Good luck on you EAD. I hope you wont find yourself in this difficult situation. I know how it feels, we all dont want to be a burden to our spouses, and we all want to get that sense of being independent and self worth. :-) |

I'm still waiting for my NOA2 for the K-3. Once you enter the US, you apply for your EAD. Do you have to wait till you get that before working? Can you get an interim EAD and a SSN? Or can you basically not work for atleast 3 months after you enter the US on a K-3 .... waiting for the EAD to process... Thanks, Kevin |
Re: EAD Card
If your status for I-765 is approved online, can I start work immediately before actually getting a EAD card in your hand?
