DS 230 Delay in returning

Hello folks, just wondering if anyone knows if the Embassy will have any issues with a delay in sending in the DS 230 and DS 2001 back after approval of the I-130 petition??

It's been nearly 3 months since approval and i still haven't sent them. I've been immensly busy and id like to get all paperwork in order before i send them. Especially the DS 2001!!

Thank you.

And Happy New Year!!!

Did the I-130 get filed in the USA? If so, there will be some steps through NVC, such as submittal of the I-864 and submittal of original civil documents. Have these steps been completed?

Do you have your police report? Did you book your medical exam?

You can do all these things before having to submit anything to the US Embassy.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. Everything has been filed so far in the UK. I wanted to get all paperwork together including military records(pretty awkward), before I posted so I'm not rushing trying to obtain docs prior to interview.

I would like to book a medical sometime in Jan if possible.

Thanks.

I think an approved I-130 petition is valid for 1 year from the date of approval. If you don't progress your application before then that will be a problem.

You do realise that the DS-230 Part I/II can be sent without the DS-2001?

If it was me I would book the medical for January then fill out the DS-230 Part I/II and send them to the embassy with a covering letter stating your medical date.

After the medical has been completed and you have gathered all the paperwork together (police certificate(s), I-864, etc) then I would fill out and send the DS-2001 when I am ready for an interview. This way you get to take your time but the application is being processed in parallel and the embassy knows what your intentions are.

Hi,

Hey thanks for the great advice! That is very similar to what I had planned anyway, just wanted another opinion on it!

I'm gonna get the DS 230 in the post this week and the medical arranged soonest.

CHEERS!
