I am from england, and many years ago as a confused teenager i ran into some
trouble with the police over here. I wasn't sent to prison or anything like
that but was put on probation.

Anyway thats nearly 7 years ago now and since which I have stayed out of
trouble and am now studying for a degree. 2 years ago I met a beautiful
girl from america, and we have really fallen in love, while its not on the
cards at the moment I am wondering if my past issues with authority will
stop me and her one day marrying. I understand that us law is very strict
on crime, can anyone give me any advice as to my chances in the future

Can i just add to anyone that replies my thanks in advance for any help u
can give.

Michael

As far as I know no 'authority' can prevent you from being married (even prisoners
are married occasionally). If you wish to immigrate to the US that is another matter.
Try posting this in alt.visa.us.marriage-based. There are plenty of people there with
similar situations. Also check Steen's visa pages
http://www.mindspring.com/~docsteen/...o/visainfo.htm. You could also write to
the INS section at the US Embassy in London (again, this presumes you want to
immigrate).
