I am currently having my mother and stepfather write affadavits stating they witnessed the marriage for the extra proof of relationship that is needed besides our marriage certificates. Do these statements need to be notarised?

J,
No.
And why are you associating the the affidavits with the G-325A? The affidavits are supporting documents for the petition, just as the G-325A is a supporting document for the petition.

Dammit, wish I had known about the magic language.
I had my 4 affidavits signed in front of a public notary figure, oh well she gaves us lots of fancy cover letters and it all looked very professional with an embellishment of a Welsh dragon on every page to confirm the authenticity of the document!

W,
Notarization - signing in front of a notary public - does not confirm the authenticity of the document.
It confirms the authenticity of the signature.
Dragons or no dragons.

Unless the notary places the following language on the document
I, _____, hereby attest and affirm that this document is an exact copy of the original I have personally examined.

J,
Witnessing a marriage is extra proof that the marriage took place. It is not proof of relationship.
Witnessing that the two people living their lives together as a family unit is proof of relationship.

R,
Agreed. When the situation involves notarizing copies of original documents.
Does not apply when notarizing the signature of an original document, no copy involved.
