Brad:

I'd suggest you contact folinskyinla who posts frequently on this board.
A couple of years back, I referred a female client who desparately
needed some relief from the INS on an immigration issue to him. My
client and I were *very* pleased with how the case was handled.

Best of luck!

Jeff

Thank you, I have a Fiance in Brazil and would like to start the process in
February. Can you give me any details as to what I need to do and a price that
would be set for the process.

Yes, there are a couple in here.
It might be better to deal with someone licensed in your state, however.
In most cases, a lawyer isn't needed for K-1 filing.

LOL...I could only be so fortunate, now that I've started the K-1
process for myself and my Mexican fiancee. Things would be *alot* less
confusing for me if I my alter ego was "Folinskyinla".

In all truth, I briefly met "Folinskyinla" via a referral about two
years ago, when a client of mine (I'm an investigator), was fearful that
she would be deported over missing her AOS appointments. Her abusive
husband wasn't helping matters much, moving out just prior to one
appointment and threatening her with a refusal to attend any future
appointments. "Folinskyinla" represented her before the INS, and was
very instrumental turning around a rather nasty situation. She received
her permanant residence card, and i had a *very* satisfied client.

It's not that complicated to do it all yourself. The INS website does
an adequate job of explaining what you need. In your case, try

http://www.ins.gov/graphics/howdoi/fiance.htm

Additionally, try searching the INS website with keywords, K-1 or
fiance.

Even if you eventually decide to hire a lawyer, for your own behoof,
read and understand the law yourself.

After getting f***ed big time by an immigration lawyer, I trusted no
one. After started reading everything I could find on the INS
website, I found out that anybody could handle his or her own
immigration paperwork. Don't be intimidated by the INS's bereaucracy
and assume blindly that lawyers know more than you.

Good luck.

Its not. BTW, I recommend Matt Udall. He is knowledgable and honorable. And the best thing about him is that he has the attribute I honor most highly in a lawyer -- he knows that he does NOT know everything there is to know and will go to figure it out when the system throws a wicked curveball at you.

[I've always appreciated a good catcher in baseball].

Hi Lynn:

I happen to agree with the two comments I extracted from your posting. Sorry to hear that you were not satisifed with the lawyer's service -- I don't know enough to comment otherwise.

A good lawyer should not be bothered about being questioned if the questions are knowledgable and reasonable [like everything else in life, this can be overdone and become abusive].

My good friend Howard Hom teaches a law school class on Immigration Law and he admonishes his students that immigration clients will have done their homework and will often know more than the law.

To be honest, the most troublesome clients are the ones who expect the lawyer to "do it all." I expect the client to be a partner in their own case -- after all, it is their life, not mine.

Good luck.
