Detroit - Same Day AOS question...

Does anyone know if Detroit is still doing same-day AOS? I have heard
that they are... wondering if they still are doing this.
Now my real question... if they are still doing same-day AOS, does
that mean, after I have my interview there and am granted my AOS, that
I am free to travel in/out of the US, and/or find work in the US?!
The reason I ask is that I will be coming in on a Fiance visa (we were
giving expedited processing), but I still plan on keeping my current
job in Windsor Ontario for now... until I can find suitable employment
in Michigan. So once I enter on the Fiance visa, I would like to
marry immediately, and get my AOS and hopefully travel to work
immediately... any one know if this is possible? I assume that once
you get AOS, you are free to travel and work... is this correct?
If not... and if they are not doing AOS, does any one else know my
options? How long does it take to get advanced parole so that I can
continue to work in Windsor?
Thanks in advance,
Sean

Myself (K1) and 2 K2 sons went through the walk in AOS in Detroit in August.
I havent heard or read that they have stopped doing walk-ins.
The good news about Advance Parole is that you dont have to fill in the form
or pay the fee, as part of the walk in adjustment process it is all
inclusive, same goes for EAD, if you pass the interview which consists of a
few straight forward questions about you and your partner you will be given
your I-551 stamp which is the 'temporary evidence of lawful admission for
permanant residence' this i believe includes AP and EAD. I'm sure someone
will put me right if it doesnt tho.
If its any help our 2 year green cards arrived just about 4 weeks after our
AOS.
Hope this helps some

Here is my timeline for my I-485/I-130 application that I mailed in:
Nov 21st 2001: mailed application in
Dec 13th 2002: date on receipt from INS
Jan 24th 2002: issued AP and EAD
Feb 2002 : fingerprinted
NB: if you end up mailing your application, check with the INS office the address at which your application should be mailed. The address on the INS website is *NOT* the one I was given when I went to Detroit INS to check. [I know people who waited 4 months (!!!) for their enveloppe sent at the Mt Elliott address to be opened and issued their receipt... Maybe it was a special case, but it is worth checking with the INS office about the latest filing procedure if you don't live very far away, and it doesn't look like you do if you work in Windsor...]
It is very easy to go to the Detroit INS office, and to inquire about the filing procedure, you only need to speak to the "receptionist" so you don't even have to show up "early". You can show up at 10:30am and be out of there in 30mins/1hour. However, the day you file in person (if still possible) or you need to speak to an information officer, I would advise to be at the office at 6:30am [time when the parking lot gates are opened]. Then, you don't have to wait that long because you are one of the first one and you are out of there pretty quickly.
Otherwise, the officers at Detroit office are usually pretty nice, anyway, that has been my experience.

And once again you will be getting expedited service from the US government's Immigration and Naturalization Services.
As of 9/2002, Detroit was still doing same day AOS for K-1 recipients.

I'm curious as all get out what cause you have to be expedited since you are apparently healthy and hale since you will be communting daily to Canada to work but it is not my business but it will keep my nimble mind busy ;-)))

Rete...
Sorry took so long to see your post... anyways... if you are wondering
why I got expedited processing... here is the juste of the story...
My fiance is pregnant. She is due in March, 2003. Due to Canadian
divorce laws, I was unable to obtain a divorce until October 2002.
And I filed my fiance visa immediately... however if our case were to
go the normal route, I would not be there for the birth of my child.
My fiance is currently unemployed, and I am paying for her and
myself... obviously this is extremely expensive to maintain two
households and two sets of bills... and I can only do this for so
long... my shallow well of money runs only so deep... my Fiance is
also unable to teach as she has to finish her teaching certification,
which she has to pay for... can't pay for that without making money...
if she doesn't finish in the alloted time, she doesn't get her
certification, the money spent to date is out the window. All in
all... if our case is not expedited, she becomes a public charge, our
baby goes without a father being around for who knows how long... so
obviously I think our case is VERY strong for expedition... we have
been together for some time now, we have a baby on the way ... and I
am from Canada with a degree, no criminal record, and a job... so
obviously this isn't out of convenience... so they have verbally told
me my case is being expedited.
Does that ease your mind?! ;-)
Thanks,
Sean

Well Rete my friend... I personally think you can pull your head out
of your a**. I wasn't with my girlfriend while I was still married...
I was legally seperated... but in Canada there are a lot of
restrictions around getting divorced. Bottom line... you can go screw
yourself and your selfish reasoning... I am here to take care of my US
Citizen fiance and our child... and I am doing the RIGHT thing. I
have had a lot of support from people on this list... and to all of
them I THANK THEM FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
I would wish bad on you.. like INS losing your paperwork... but that
isn't my style. I am the "nice" Canadian guy... so I will simply wish
you good luck in your situation, and continue in mine, which obviously
you don't have all the facts, nor understand. And I will enjoy my
expedited processing.
Cheers,
Sean
